| 1447374 | 2018-03-17 06:36:00 | My son just got his licence. Looked at a car today 1996 Festiva pretty sound but makes a bit of clunk when going from P to D and P to R even when warm. ATF is clean, changes ok. How much clunk is acceptable? Dragon's car has done 11000k Mazada 2 auto it makes no noise at all. | prefect (6291) | ||

Cross -member bushings might be worn - I also replaced those. I would have thought the clunk was more taking up slack in the trans. I do not know much about faults with these gearboxes I have changed plenty but that is when they completely lose drive. What I want to know is how much clunk is acceptable. The car was 155k very straight and clean but it had worn tires all round, a scratch on the windscreen from the wiper arm, black engine oil, unknown cam belt change. Was for sale $1600 but will pass on this one. Looking at another Festiva Monday night. You can see both on TM in Auckers blue. |

| 1447377 | 2018-03-17 20:25:00 | I had a Mazda Capella import 20 or so years ago which had that problem. I sold it to a bloke and pointed it out but he was happy to buy it as the price was right. It packed up 3 months later and was going to cost $2000+ to fix. He bought a swap engine/tranny from a wrecker to solve the problem. Ken |

| 1447379 | 2018-03-17 21:25:00 | YOU need to ask this? You know your mechanicals don't you? I would say none. The last thing you want is transmission problems, skip it and move on... We always have old cars, as you know the current one is 1996.....always make sure the auto is good before buying and we have never had to get one fixed. And wouldn't actually, at the pricce we pay for cars, it's toss it and buy another. |
