1446577 2018-02-23 00:47:00 Dave - I think you are most fortunate person what with your ability to push me through the correct entryway - me kicking and screaming - and you just gently prodding me to do so.

I have you to thank for my (re)newed interest in Linux and this time I ain't going back to Billy.

Actually ----> I am the most fortunate person to have you for all the successes I've had so far.

1446578 2018-02-23 05:51:00 What eludes me is how come none of the versions required me to find drivers for anything?

4 different Motherboards just worked.
4 different Printers Just worked.
4 different scanners Just worked.
4 different Blue-Tooth just worked.
4 different Webcams just worked

Shall I go on Video – Audio ................................ just worked.

I have't had to install anything on sons Win10. drivers just worked.

My mint, well the HP printer worked fine.
The Epson, no...had to get a 3rd party thing to show ink levels, and also it will not allow 2 sided printing. Boomaga is a work around but still requires me to manually reinsert the paper.

Known issue, HP good, Canon, pretty good, the rest, you take your chances.

My brother has just emailed to say his USB wifi adapter isn't working with Mint, buggered if I know what to advise him.

As surferjoe says it usually just works but if it doesn't it is then a PITA.

Not that I have any intention of ever going back to MS.....PITA with the odd bit of hardware on Linux or not.

Funny you should mention it ---- but my USB/WiFi RTL8812au is dead again .

I can just shove the ALPHA USB into any slot and it works --- instantly .

But my WSKY just dies of a heart attack when and wherever it choses!

I'm going all through this again .

Making sure that I have the required build packages---------------------

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essential git

Download the updated source code

git clone . com/scrivy/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux . git" target="_blank">github . com

Compile the kernel module

cd rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux

make

Install it!

sudo make install

sudo modprobe 8812au

plug in your wifi adapter and enjoy! ---- just beware that you WILL GET an error answer after the 'modprobe' . Ignore it - or so I've found out anyway .
