1446469 2018-02-19 00:43:00 I want to try Netflix on my non-smart TV. I was going to use Chromecast but my Tablet is old and without cast support. I have a simple cellphone that meets my needs.

I cannot view the TV from my Desktop. Googling brings up some other possibilities but I would like some suggestions from others how to tackle the problem. I don't want a new DVD (Netflix) Player at present either.

1446470 2018-02-19 00:55:00 Connect your computer to the TV? CYaBro (73)
1446471 2018-02-19 00:56:00 That would make it easy but it is in another room. Pato (2463)
1446472 2018-02-19 01:18:00 Whatever way you go you will end up needing some new device to do it for you. What you go with is down to your preferences of course.
You could buy a cheap second hand PC and put it in the lounge, if that doesn't offend your sense of style, or get a new phone or tablet or android tv box or whatever.

I like to tinker so I've just ordered a Lattepanda and a case from DFRobot and will be trying it out for Netflix among other things www.dfrobot.com

1446473 2018-02-19 01:19:00 Does the Computer have WIFI ? If it does, depending on how far the TV and Computer are away from one another, and what walls etc are blocking you can try casting from the Chrome Browser on the computer to the chromecast in the TV. ( ideally the shorter distance the better)

OR If its only for testing purposes, a temp long cable as well.

Not sure if a cheaper cellphone would do the job but what to get.? I used to tinker also but am a bit passed it all now.

1446476 2018-02-19 03:11:00 I've setup one without line of site, but it was only through one room, the laptop at the time was VERY low on power with no other power point in the room and it was a bit of to and throw to get the settings but it was possible. Thats why I Asked whats the distance.

Have a read on how to set it up -- support.google.com

and

support.google.com

They connect Via wireless.

1446477 2018-02-19 03:22:00 Are you sure your tablet can't do it? I just looked up requirements and about the only definite limitation is android 4.4 or better and a decent internet connection / wi-fi speed. That's pretty easy to meet.
If you have a tablet older than that I admire your perseverance :) I've been through several in that time.

1446478 2018-02-19 04:05:00 Just thought I'd have a look at the chrome cast devices ( since I dont actually own one), just to have a play - But the NZ price in the shops -- They can go to hell and back. Cheaper to get a similar device from aliexpress @ 3-4 times cheaper.

Mind you will wait a few days -- Gotta love the service message ;)
