739177 2009-01-16 02:32:00 Today's air crash opens itself up to a conspirancy theory... I have to wonder if this pilot, with his impeccable record, maybe deliberately crashed the plane under his command into the river?

Hmm.

739178 2009-01-16 02:45:00 Why? No one was even hurt. Apart from showing the world his leet flying skillz what reason would there be...? :p wratterus (105)
739179 2009-01-16 03:35:00 No Conspiracy theory - heard on the news it flew into a flock of geese causing all engines to stop, Oh My god suicide geese :horrified
Edited:
The plane had suffered a “double bird strike” when a flock of geese collided with both engines and were sucked into the turbines.

Quoted from This report (www.theglobeandmail.com)

Guess you could say their goose was cooked ------------sick joke:groan:

FULL credit to the pilots skill - could have been a LOT worse.

739180 2009-01-16 08:54:00 Maybe it was a barrage of thawed out Tegel chickens that had not been killed in the correct manner?

739181 2009-01-16 09:14:00 Geese are pretty big birds. Turbo fan engines are tested by throwing chickens into the inlet. But a goose is a big bird will knock off the compressor and fan blades.
The pilot did a fantastic job he must of stalled it just above the water I suppose.

Ir is it....

Stupid blam6.

Hasn't got the faintest idea what flying a 70 tonne airliner full of people might entail?

Do you think he was fiddling around with the gearchange and didn't see the ducks - even though he was only doing 250 knots at the time?

739185 2009-01-16 18:34:00  I see the problem started at 3000 ft

Can geese fly that high?

Can geese fly that high?

The bird strike happened within the first minute of takeoff. They continued up to 3000 ft while advising ATC of of the problem and getting clearance back to LaGuardia
