738521 2009-01-14 03:20:00 Wat is up with Sony?
They tryina pull a con or what

I went into sony style new market today
I go to the guy i want a sony vaio Z series laptop
he goes we don't have any of the new ones in stock,
but we can sell you an EX-DEMO VGNZ16GNB for a discounted price of $2499

I said to him buddy,
that same model is $2499 online sony.co.nz
and you tryina sell me an EX DEMO + DISCOUNTED for the SAME price?
sony.co.nz

He goes, yeah that one was probably clearance too,
sorry I can't discount this any further
I said no thanks forget it

Came home rang Sony NZ to see what the deal was
The lady i got through to had ZERO skills in customer service
I said hey there i went to sony shop today to buy a sony vaio z series laptop,
its a Vaio Z series $2499.
She STOPS talking doesnt say anything while looking for it,
doesn't even say "hey i'll look for you give me a second"
so im sitting there eventually i go. Did you find it?? she goes nah..

I said listen heres the product code VGNZ16GNB its on the website NOW for $2499
she goes to me ok i found it. its $2999 and theres only 1 showing available in the system
I said what are you talking about I'm viewing it now on the website for $2499
She said yeah I don't know I only see one available, it's ex Demo at newmarket for $2999

At this point I realised this lady was even more clueless than the instore guy & said forget it goodbye

What a pathetic excuse for customer service
I'd lodge a complaint if I knew where to do so

What part of "there's only 1 left" don't you get?

738523 2009-01-14 03:34:00 You're unlucky - Sony are normally pretty good to deal with . You also need to realize that pricing on end of line stock, or almost out of stock models can fluctuate a lot, quite possibly it was already heavily discounted on the website . They obviously didn't have their pricing quite right, but its not the person on the other end of the phone's fault .

However you really don't want to buy Sony laptops - they have about the highest failure rate of any brand, most models are overpriced, and they cost an arm and a leg to repair .

Sony are great in every area except laptops .

Buy an Asus or Toshiba laptop if at all possible . :)

Judging by your tone, I'm guessing you either work for sony or advocate them

a) sony.co.nz sells the discussed laptop for $2499 with NO mention of Ex-Demo or Clearance
b) sony style newmarket tried selling it to me for $2499 supposedly "discounted"
c) sony over the phone told me it was $2999

Which of these 3 points don't you get?

In response to wratterus I've read here n there that sony vaios can be unreliable but to put it simply, show me another 13.1" Laptop as compact/light as the Vaio Z series with similar spec and I'll buy it, but I doubt there are any so the only real choice is sony...

738525 2009-01-14 03:49:00 Dell XPS 1330? jwil1 (65)
738526 2009-01-14 03:50:00 Just looked at XPS1330, lower spec & bulkier...

I have a HP Pavillion DV3110TX at the moment

738527 2009-01-14 03:51:00 $2499 is the online price and $2999 is the store price
it cost more to host a website than a shop right?
