737162 2009-01-10 21:37:00 The intention was for this to be about Fallout 3, However its not only damn expensive but it seems no one local has it in stock. Guess I'll wait a year and then it will be half price.

While I'm on the subject, I have a copy here of PC World which has a review of Fallout 3.....on the Xbox, In fact nearly all the games reviewed are on consoles, How the hell is that relevant to PC users? Actually, The entire magazine is full of decent articles on items that have nothing to do with PC's, and the scant material that does cover PC specific items are worthless fluff pieces. Whoever wrote or approved that pathetic review of video cards needs to have a good long think about what they are up to.

There are no performance comparisons, test results, system configs, Nothing but vague fluffy comments about nothing, and how the hell can you recommend a card as a Home theatre card simply because of an output?,for all we know it has crap image quality, did you try it in such a setting?, compare it to others?, If you did then tell us how it all went, if not then don't make the recommendation

Ah, ranting. Never mind, The GPS roundup had lots of info:dogeye:

Anyway, The games.

Civ 4.

Worst game ever made. Going by the fact that fans around the world love it and every single review heaped unlimited praise on it then I can only state that everyone else smokes too much crack, and I'm the only one who knows anything about anything.

$30 from DSE. Bored me to tears, and those out of proportion units made me hate hate hate.

Battle for Middle Earth II

Stunning, I love it. The setting alone is awesome, The battles are epic, The game play is intuitive (probably because it uses so many conventional RTS systems) Found it very easy to throw up a fortified town and build an army, within 20 minutes I had an army of Urika and Battle trolls marching on the lands of the East. And it looks like there is plenty of depth under the hood to make her last for a good long span. Its also a couple years old so a basic system should run it fine, though there is no wide-screen resolutions available.

$20 from The Warehouse

PC World Magazine

Perhaps you guys could launch a separate magazine and make it about PC's. Or at least change the name of your current magazine as its a poor indication of the content.

737163 2009-01-10 22:05:00 I subscribe to PC World but it must be through nostalgia, as it takes about five minutes to read and the advertisements are now more enjoyable than the articles .

As for games - deluxe yahtzee has taken up far too much of my time in the last year and I strongly recommend to anyone they avoid it unless they have several weeks to spare . Otherwise stick to playing chess online, at least that feels more productive even if it isn't .

Ok I'm being harsh, it takes me ten minues to read PC World .

737164 2009-01-10 22:09:00 So my instinct to not renew my sub for PC World mag has been correct.
Actually I haven't subscribed to it for a couple of years now as the content was slacking off then too.

Wish I had time to play games...
It would mean I would get to build a new PC as well :D

737166 2009-01-11 00:22:00 just took a random issue of it off my shelf( august)
i it has 45 pages about/related to computer excluding advertisements.
and the rest is on non computer related technology, reviews on cameras,TVs , phones,
Games, tips, how to, mail, news, projectors, and thats about it. but the magizine's policy is to have technology advice you can trust meaning that its actually a technology magazine not a computer magazine so u can't really blame it for only having 45 pages of computers. i don't really believe it only takes u 10 minutes to read it so i think ur just flipping pages and looking at the articals that u have EXTREME interest in.
and the programs in the DVDs, if u look at them and have a play with them, u could spend around a day doing that, overall its not bad for $9 monthly read

737167 2009-01-11 00:31:00 Yeah, wouldnt mind fallout 3, but $100 is steep for a damn game.....I like the idea on 20sq miles to explorer...or something like that anyway....or perhaps far cry 2 SolMiester (139)
737168 2009-01-11 00:33:00 how, long does it last? 2 months and its a waste 3 months not bad a year and its worth it pcuser7895 (12979)

$72.

Who reads PC World?
I read Atomic every month which is mostly hardware with some games at the back, and PC Gamer every now and then.

Anyway the best way to see if you like a game is to ignore mag revierws, user reviews and download a demo yourself. I hated the Fallout 3 trailers.
