| 843612 | 2009-12-27 19:30:00 | Hi Guys. Restarting this thread as things have developed. Reinstalled from the rescue partition(second time). Downloaded most of the updates no problems. Went well untill it started dropping the broadband connection. Changed the network cable but no change. Modem is ok as other machines on the system still have the connection. Any ideas on what the problem might be. Only way seems to be to restart the computer. It connects of then drops the connection after a few minutes. Rebooted modem numerous times without success. Got me stumped so any ideas welcome |

Or else youre going to confuse people with different threads/posts, about the same thing. By the rescue partition you mean the restore partition?? You pressed F10 or whatever key to restore the system to its original condition / settings? If you did, I would take it back to the shop, if its still under warranty. It sounds like there's something wrong with it. What firewall is on it (after you restored it)?? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||

It sounds like there's something wrong with it. What firewall is on it (after you restored it)?? Yep the Restore Partition. The system is 2 yrs old so return not an option. It is a Compac. The reason I reinstalled was it was getting unstable and crashing. SWMBO kept giving me major grief. The prepacked firewall was Norton but I did not let it install. Insted I loaded Comodo. |

| 843615 | 2009-12-27 19:59:00 | Ummm, If its a restore partition, can you select what you dont want to install?? I thought it reinstalled everything?? Did all of the drivers install, when you did the restore?? Or did you download some after? If so, what? Are you on dialup or broadband (since in the other thread, you say something about a fax modem). The driver for the modem didnt work? Post a HJT log if you can. So we can see whats in it. |

| 843616 | 2009-12-27 20:27:00 | No options were given. It reinstalled the lot. Have not downloaded any drivers. Only things downloaded are all updates. Nortons came with the install but I did not allow it to install and instead installed Comodo. The earlier mention of dial up was to illustrate what it had downloaded as part of the reinstall, probably for those not on BB. Just noticed it reconnected for a short time them dropped again Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 9:24:00 a.m., on 28/12/2009 Platform: Windows Vista (WinNT 6.00.1904) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16945) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\Windows\system32\taskeng.exe C:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exe C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE C:\hp\support\hpsysdrv.exe C:\WINDOWS\RtHDVCpl.exe C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\hpwuSchd2.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\rundll32.exe C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\cfp.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Essentials\msseces.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe C:\hp\kbd\kbd.exe C:\Windows\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Windows\system32\SearchFilterHost.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 - | 843618 | 2009-12-27 20:47:00 | It is now up to date. IE 8 is one of three updates waiting to come down. No sign of SP1 yet. Update seems to be frozen on 33%. BTW Is there a way I can I save the downloaded updates so I dont have to download them again.\? Don't have adobe reader installed |

| 843619 | 2009-12-27 20:53:00 | Reader is installed. Must have done it as part of the reload. Should I uninstall it? | Colpol (444) | ||
| 843620 | 2009-12-27 20:58:00 | Sorry about this Speedy. This problem has scrambled my brain. Need to slow down I think. After the second reinstall The BB stayed connected long enough to get the updates. (several hours) |

| 843621 | 2009-12-27 21:05:00 | You can go to the MS site, and download SP1 and SP2. However theyre not small. SP1 for x64 is 743mb, and SP1 for x86 is 557mb SP1 for x86 (www.microsoft.com) SP1 for x64 (www.microsoft.com) SP2 for x86 (www.microsoft.com) I would install one of the free PDF readers |
