That's one of the things making me stay away from Asian women these days. Go to uni and all those rich youngsters are all stuck up and go to the finest clubs to go drink like there's no tomorrow and do stuff to different guys in the toilet. Been there, disgusted by what they do. |

I would have spent an absolute fortune on drinking and parties over the years and I dont regret 1 nanosecond of it. You are only young once I had a great time as a young fella drinking, and parties etc,seen some interesting things happen its all good. Actually feel sorry for non drinkers and alkies dont know they have any fun. Rather be dead than a non drinker. Shouted a 50 litre keg after my first solo for ppl. Drink to forget Drink so ugly or fat chicks start looking good. |

I know rich asians are very spoilt but i rather have a girlfriend thats asian and speaks cantonese as i want to have someone with the same culture think in the same logic way as me. Living in new plymouth and palmerston north i have never met anyone who is rich as and are spoilt. You know not to be racist but most asian think more logically when thinking and doing things compared to europeans that doesnt mean i wont find a girl who is european. Unless there are facts I'm unaware of, I think those of you who think the family that come from Aus should pay have missed a rather large point! 'They' didn't hire the vehicle and therefore shouldn't have to pay. How would you feel if for instance it wasn't family members but best friends that had died and you came over to collect the bodies and the hire company hit you up for it's costs. I think you would rightly direct the hire company to the glaciers ice face and tell him to seek his cost from the hirer when he's thawed. Being family shouldn't have anything to do with it. It's tough on the company but thats the business he's in, occasionally tourists will do a runner. At least the tourist that owes him is still in the country! ;-/ To the poster who believes that we are all just people so just open the gates to all [The implication being, that we all have the same values and way of thinking ] should really travel more. That simplistic view that surely everyone thinks like us is one reason some Americans cause so much angst in the world. Of course one in particular wont be causing so much soon! There are definitely facts you are unaware of it would seem. The father was the one who actually hired the car. |

There are two different sets of values - the Western set of values is quite different from the Oriental (especially Chinese) set of values. We can't apply blindly one set of values onto another. A good example is: we cannot copy blindly the Western democracy and apply it in China. Taiwan's political turmoil is a live example of the above. Former Singapore's Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew has pointed this out far back in the early 70's. |

He was elected but if you started up an opposition party to the PAP (Peoples Action Party) or even stood as an independent you ended up in Changi jail. The place is clean and crime free but at a big price for freedom of the individual. Even today the place is as close a Nazi police state you can get. They are the world leader in executions per population even bettering Saudi Arabia. Lee's view is that Chinese people need a strongman not a democracy like NZ. People who use Singapore as an example for NZ to follow are f***** in the head. Fined 200 for not flushing toilet, no chewing gum, cant dance on bartop, say anything about the PAP or leaders you are Changi bound. Dont really want Chinese "values" like this in Nouvelle Zealande. |

First and foremost, I wish to say that Chinese values in NZ is definitely NOT going to work as I mentioned earlier on (if you read carefully), similarly, Western values will NOT work in the East especially China, Taiwan, Hongkong or Singapore! The Oriental culture, values are just different from the West. Chinese people in general, don't want the Western set of democracy and likewise, the Western society cannot accept the Chinese values. As regards your views on Mr Lee Kuan Yew, whatever your views are (I respect your views), that fact is that his contributions to Singapore are recognised by the Singaporeans without questions. Without him, Singapore would be something like Malaysia or even Indonesia today. Some people may not like the way he rules (he is still a very influential person in Singapore although he has officially stepped down). It is what the Singaporeans want and NOT the Westerners want. That's why PAP is still in power. The Western model will NOT work in Singapore and the people of Singpore don't want the western model in Singapore! |
