An issue with classification according to "ethnic groups" is the desire of some to exclude others who don't fit their personal ideal, e.g. pressf1.pcworld.co.nz :groan: |

| 738048 | 2009-01-14 07:18:00 | And in Australia, what were the beach wars about a couple of years ago? As far as your comments about Pākehā are concerned, the less said the better, but just one comment would be that logic is not your strong suit... The "beach wars" was about immigrants trying to force there beliefs onto the lives of others, and when they didn't respond by changing they spat the dummy. Those involved are mummy's boys with warped minds, who think a woman in a Bikini is a piece of scum and deserving of being raped. Its no wonder Aussie's stood up, Showed their flag and said **** off, This is Australia and that scumbag crap won't be tolerated. Respect. Anyhow, regarding pakeha and logic, Its amazing that in your eyes a bunch of cannibalistic bush people can define a new ethnicity based on the first nonsense word out of their mouths but someone can't define their own ethnicity based on their Heritage. Like it or not that blood line is now a New Zealand blood line. Hence we are New Zealanders, and there is no such thing as a pakeha. |

While not born here and so never will be, I do agree with what you are saying. SWMBO born here to Dutch parents but she is a New Zealander and would not class herself as anything else. |

I am not small or brown but I am flightless. I do not consider myself to be a Pakeha. It was not my fault that New Zealand had Maori Wars some time in the past but we seem to be still paying today. en.wikipedia.org I was lucky enough to be born here in New Zealand. |
