| 737301 | 2009-01-11 09:31:00 | Today, SWMBO and I took our kayaks out to sea on a beautiful calm morning and since it was low tide we stopped at a beach on the way back and spent 5 minutes gathering 2 dozen green lipped mussels which we later had for dinner with tomatoes and basil and garlic from our garden and spaghetti. All washed down with a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Gaza and what happens there seems totally irrelevant to me.................. You have great taste.....!:)...Mmmmm |

However that is in response to 60 years of attacks from Arab armies and more recently attacks by Hammas and Hizbollah. I think we'd all get a tad upset if someone kept chucking rockets at us, then hiding among civilians. It starts back in AD300 when the Romans threw the Jews out of Palestine. Over centuries some Jewish people moved back but the local Arab population were dominant. They all got along pretty well and it isn't true that there has been centuries of conflict. In 1870 the Zionist movement began with the aim of creating the ancient land of Israel which dated from the time of Moses. Quietly Jewish people began buying desert land from Arabs - who were happy to sell it. Palestine was held by the Ottoman Empire who lost it to the British in WWII. After WWII the Allies were ashamed and appalled to discover the Nazis had exterminated 6 million Jews. Refugees flooded Palestine as being the only place they felt safe on Earth. In 1948 the UN created Israel plus two territories - the West Bank and Gaza, for the Palestinian Arabs to live in. That is where most of them lived. Immediately five Arab nations attacked - Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq their armies consisting of 3 million soldiers. The attackers told the Palestinians to leave, promising they could have all of Israel after the Jews were driven into the sea. Unfortunately for the Palestinians, their brothers lost the war leaving them strewn around the Middle East in refugee camps. And that's how we get to today. |

Consider this for the all the weapons Israel has they a have killed very few people. The death toll of Palestinians was 300 on the first day, it is now 800 after 14 days. So that means they are killing less people now than at the start of the war ! And if Hamas stopped putting children near their facilities or moved them, there would be less children killed. Arabs are the only people that use suicide bombers and the only people that teach their children to die ! |

There were no countries such as Saudi Arabia, or Iraq, or Lebanon, Syria or Jordan or Israel. They were all part of the Turkish Empire. It was not until during the First World War that the British and French promised the Jews a bit of a homeland in the area known as Palestine, and they also promised the Arabs nation-hood if they helped in the war against Turkey. |

It stems from Hamas winning elections in Gaza and Israel not accepting the results and locking everyone in. I would call the siege of Gaza and the bombing of civilian area another holocaust. Previous history is not relevant its water under the bridge. Its not rocket science stop the siege the rockets would stop. If I was trapped in Gaza I would be the first person to make and fire rockets at the bastards who are besieging me. Digby the Tamils are the suicide bombing experts the Palestinians are amateurs. The thing I hate about Hamas is that they are religious and I DETEST religious people be they Christian Muslim or Jew. A crime Hamas has done is close down liquor stores so Palestinian Arab Christians cant get any plonk. |

You are forgetting, that Israel DID give the Palestinians there own borders etc, however all the Palestinians did was import weapons to fie upon the Israel's, so they had to take control back.. |

| 737310 | 2009-01-11 22:44:00 | Wrong they only gave Gaza back then put the place under siege when Hamas won elections. The West Bank is still under occupation. Like I said any reasonable male with balls would be firing at the enemy trying to break the siege thats just what you have to do. Soon the Arab Israeli population( they have large families or root a lot) will exceed the Jewish population and the Arabs will vote them out. Thats the end of Israel as we know it unless they want to try apartheid. |
