739123 2009-01-17 05:57:00 I guess successful would be no deaths. beeswax34 (63)
739124 2009-01-17 06:01:00 Probably the only jet liner to ditch in deep water without killing anyone.
Buku bombers successfully ditched in the sea esp during WW2.

739125 2009-01-17 18:58:00 Yes that pilot did a perfect job imho.

And it all happened within a few minutes - that was cool decision making.

739126 2009-01-17 19:36:00 Depends what you call successful.

<edit>Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961 - ditched off a beach on the Comoro Islands - 50 people survived. www.youtube.com

The pilot did pretty good on that one Jan. It was being commented on, on tv and apparently the crew were fighting hijackers at the time of landing. The pilot in particular was being beaten about the head. It was this that caused him to dip the wing into the water which spoilt the chance of many more people on board surviving.

Brave or self preservation? Bit of both probably.

739127 2009-01-18 00:09:00 correct me if I'm wrong here, but i believe that was the first ever successful emergency landing on water?

According to NBC News that I was watching yesterday the last successful ditching was in 1979,,
