738717 2009-01-14 20:08:00 Good question, but I highly doubt that IF he sent the bill that it'd say "Must be paid within 24 hours" ... sounds like its really been blown up by the media :-/ Chilling_Silence (9)
738718 2009-01-14 20:17:00 ..... sounds like its really been blown up by the media :-/

Surely not!!!! :horrified

Used to be relatively common in "slow news weeks" - unfortunately it has become the norm to overstate the case now, previously in headlines, more lately, all through the 'story'.

"Never let the facts get in the way of a good story" - this truism has never be more applicable not only in NZ journalism, but around the world.

738719 2009-01-14 20:29:00 More false reporting? This from the NZ Herald:

"A rental car company which charged recovery costs to the grieving parents of two young men killed at Fox Glacier has backed down after a storm of criticism led by the Prime Minister"

I thought the bill was covered by donations, not written off.

738721 2009-01-14 22:20:00 I thought the bill was covered by donations, not written off.

Thought so too, I watched the news and that's what I heard.

Why not read the news?
The news presents all facts so we can rely on this without question.

LOL...wow, a joke from you sweep, I'm impressed!

738723 2009-01-14 23:18:00 So, with no contribution to the poll, why did you post at all??

Ken

Was hoping someone could explain the choices " hint hint"...???

738724 2009-01-15 00:15:00 Umm .. they're kind of self explanatory? :-/

738725 2009-01-16 09:29:00 I'm a bit drunk at the moment, but I agree with pctek. Sure, it's sad that they died, but life goes on. Bills still need to be paid. And like... someone said, it has been blown out of proportion by the media. ubergeek85 (131)
738726 2009-01-16 09:46:00 No bills stop because someone has died.
IRD, funeral costs - is it bad to charge people for the funeral???

These guys died as a result of their stupidity.
You rent things - you are responsible for returning that item, the compnay had to get it towed, why should they get stuck with the bill?

x2, a business is a business.
