| 740070 | 2009-01-18 10:35:00 | I know this is really sad, but did anyone else notice in tonight's show that in the scene in the Vogon office with all the aliens queuing, one of the creatures was the Marvin robot from the original BBC TV production? (I realize I'm probably the only person in the known universe who didn't know that already...) Which of course leads to the next question - were any of the other creatures insider-references to other shows? Another thing - there are a couple of shots where a guy dressed in white is sitting outside a cafe, reading. Is that Eric Idle? He didn't appear in the credits. |

| 740072 | 2009-01-18 19:27:00 | I noticed it and my wife asked why they didn't use the BBC TV version of Marvin rather than tubby that they used in the movie who didn't seem to quite fit the character. | paulw (1826) | ||

I got the original TV show on DVD a couple of years ago, and was really surprised at how cheesy it was - I remembered it as being fantastic. I thought the movie was OK, but didn't quite have the anarchic wit of the original. | Tony (4941)

In any case, with the CGI/animatronic stuff available now, you'd expect the robot to be a bit sleeker - but still depressed. :) | Tony (4941)
| 740075 | 2009-01-18 21:55:00 | The original Marvin did appear in the background of one scene. I started thinking that all the changes were an insult to the original until I found out that Douglas Adams wrote the film script and he changed each version (book, radio & TV) that he's done in the past. | PaulD (232) | ||
