739207 2009-01-16 04:23:00 1. Why did she have to use that CD?
2. Why did she not think about it herself and do a little bit of research about ubuntu?
3. Why didn't she try try open office?
4. It would only have taken her around half an hour to take a look at ubuntu and take a simple open office document to a computer with word.
5. Why is she so stupid?

All I've got to say.

739208 2009-01-16 04:27:00 Not everyone is computer literate remember just because we are but 10 years ago I would have been exactly the same. gary67 (56)
739209 2009-01-16 04:57:00 I don't get it - what is news worthy about that story? :illogical

No different to someone buying a new laptop with Vista to replace their Win98 computer and not realising Vista is not compatible with their old games and peripheral hardware.

Or did I miss something in that article?

739210 2009-01-16 05:03:00 1. The guy at dell said "college students loved it, it was compatible with everything I needed" why main thing that college students need; internet, so there must be a way to get internet with ubuntu

2. Any computer user would do research on an OS that I've never heard about is on my new computer.

3. Why would anyone complain when ther're not even sure that ther'er right?

739212 2009-01-16 06:23:00 This was blown out of proportion, but there is no excuse for calling her stupid when you do not personally know her. Greven (91)
739213 2009-01-16 06:32:00 If she's not stupid, she should get an Oscar. R2x1 (4628)
739214 2009-01-16 06:55:00 Later, she discovered Ubuntu might look like Windows, but it doesn't always act like it.

Her Verizon High-Speed Internet CD won't load, so she can't access the internet. She also can't install Microsoft Word, which she says is a requirement for MATC's online classes.

As a result, with no internet and no Microsoft Word, Schubert dropped out of MATC's fall and spring semesters.

Idiot.

You can set up your modem manually.

You can install Open Office and have it load save as .doc, .xls, .ppt.

But then again, what do you expect from Dell - informative help?

739215 2009-01-16 07:57:00 I doubt dell would've known any of that, let alone help her with it Blam (54)
