739706 2009-02-10 01:00:00 This is what I'm looking at

www.affordablecaravans.co.nz

4 berth with an awning.

Interestingly, every single dealer I have spoken with has warned me against British vans, and as proof not a single one of them had them on their yards.

Just out of interest, what was their beef with British vans?

Yeah, it must be serious if all the dealers hate them.

I know Jeremy Clarkson despises all caravans, but I don't think it's bacause of the build quality... :p

739709 2009-02-10 01:13:00 Just built very cheaply, Constructed out of foam panels and untreated timber.

Resulting in a weak structure with moisture and dry rot problems.

I was told they have a 10 year life span, which is why all the ones coming into NZ are 10 years old, They are near unsellable in the UK so Kiwi's are snapping up all the cheapies and sending them over here.

Then they get parked out in the champion NZ weather where they get baked by the sun and thrashed by the rain.

739710 2009-02-10 01:40:00 Blardy poms, maybe we should use them for caravan racing like they do at Waikaraka Park prefect (6291)
739711 2009-02-10 08:30:00 Advantage with caravans: Once your parked, you can use your car to travel around without having to pack everything up before going down to the dairy.

Disadvantages: Slow travelling, target for road rage, hard on your tow vehicle, need more than a 2 litre rice burner to tow a caravan.

Great place to camp: Awakere (near Whakatane). Easy access, hot pools, kids playground, clean facilities.

739712 2009-02-10 10:39:00 The Metla wagon could pull the heaviest of caravans without breaking a sweat.:illogical Metla (12)
739713 2009-02-10 21:04:00 Have you considered one of those so called "fifth wheel" caravans that you tow behind a ute? John H (8)
739714 2009-02-10 22:41:00 Looked at so many things I have a massive headache.

And a troubled backside, Though thats more likely due to the diet of servo pies and biscuits.

And Im probably going to ignore all the advice I have received and by a 17 year old UK caravan, whats the bet that comes back to bite my face off?, "Hey honey, You know that 20 Grand, all wasted"

739715 2009-02-11 01:58:00 You should be alright In ten years time if its starts to rot its structure you might have won 1st division in lotto or be on a huge salary as a manager of a Demo company and you wouldnt care.
Maybe if you could build a lean to to keep it out of the weather it wouldn't deteriorate.
