I never mentioned "new zealand" in my comment

I guess using a company with annual revenues of 1.9 billion just isn't enough for you huh This a NZ forum, so one would assume the person is in NZ when asking for advice on dealing with NZ companies. If you are not in NZ then this is the wrong place to ask.

From a resellers point of view with Dove - (cant supply prices they sell at till Monday) But While they will take back goods if a customer doesn't want them, as long as they are not opened, - usually withing a week at most (they can resell them). They are not to keen on it. Lots of shops are the same.

Usually if its simply because the person found a better deal else where then they should have looked into that before hand.

If an item is faulty, or has been supplied the wrong item by mistake then there's no problems at all.

So let me get this right:
You want to go back to Sony, waste time of their employee, get a refund and deprive them of the profit, only to turn round and buy it from their competitor.

Sort of a double kick in the b*lls to Sony for having a policy that goes above and beyond whats require by law.

Nice.

Well you do have rights of course.

http://www.consumeraffairs.govt.nz/

Along with rights should also come responsibilty.

It would appear that you paid money for an item and then changed your mind maybe.

If the item is defective which you can not prove to my satisfaction at this time I would think twice about giving a refund.

"All the same I think it's reasonable to change your mind within a few days and return something without too much hassle"

I wonder what the return policy is for a car dealer?
Buy a new car every 7 days as the ash tray is full and I forgot to empty it. In your case you did not even try what you bought apparently.

739591 2009-01-18 07:31:00 newegg.com, 1.9 billion annual revenue, 30 day refund policy
If you think refund policies shouldn't be offered for customers who change their minds,
tell newegg quick cause they must be doing it wrong
Perhaps they'll throw you a dollar for enlightening them

That said I like how some here are attempting to "defend" Sony,
given that from what I encountered in the pre-sales process, they're a bunch of con artists (pressf1.co.nz)

I will return this laptop if only to not buy it from sony style

Furthermore, the guy at the store who initially lied to me about the price of the 16GNB model at $2499 being "discounted for being ex-demo" later also lied to me on the phone.

He told me the 26GNB were not in stock and 2 were arriving in a day or so
He rang me 2 days later to say the 26GNB was in stock and told me there was only one left

I went into the store that day & asked another guy how many they had in stock he told me they had 2

Now thats what you call customer service

739592 2009-01-18 07:47:00 I'll call Dove on Monday - BUT I may or may not get an answer, as Being in Wellington ( both myself and dove) its a Holiday here on Monday.

I can't give out reseller prices, but can give rrp prices - if a company has a contract with dove, they may get special arranged deals.

Some places do have a refund policy - Take Norton ( PLEASE take norton :) ) they have a 60 Day money back policy - if you install the software and are not happy with it, you can get a full refund withing 60 days of purchase, even if its been on the machine.

739593 2009-01-18 07:48:00 MY GOD, HE SAID THERE WAS ONLY ONE LEFT???????

THE SCUM, HE DOESN'T DESERVE TO LIVE, KILL HIM, KILL HIM.

Probably get Wolfieforest to do it for you, he's nearly a marine and dreams of one day being paid to kill people.

It may be better if you get your parents to call Dove.
They may make more sense than you do!

There is another way out though.
You could leave the item behind a car and claim insurance when someone backs over it.

Don't worry I'll call dove myself Thats fine by me, consider it forgotten - as long as the company you work for has an account with dove the purchasing person should be able to tell you .

Dove don't sell to the general public - they are wholesalers .

The price I could or some other person with a Dove account can get them for may differ from your company's - may be cheaper may not .
