740707 2009-01-21 03:20:00 Just remember that the US's economy is so big that it affects us as well, and most of the world. ;) pcuser42 (130)
740708 2009-01-21 03:24:00 Probably crying, because he's not white

Yea .. but he is not fully black either. His mum is white and dad was from kenya. Just read that in wikipedia :p and I do admire the way he speaks, hardly seen him read from a paper unlike the previous president.

740709 2009-01-21 03:36:00 Yup, it's pretty much the same every night. :p Unless there's something especially important, I normally mute the TV until the international news comes on. :)

It's surprising, though, how much international news does not seem to reach our screens.:illogical Deutche Welle (Triangle in Auckland) broadcasts a very good international bulletin at 7pm and you can really see and hear what is going on in the rest of the world.:)

740710 2009-01-21 04:33:00 How many got up at 5-30am to watch it live on TV, not me. Saw my 10 mins worth on the TV at lunch which was enough.
:)

I did, totally worth it. And I'm with Roscoe, DW is fantastic. Thank God I dont have to watch TV1 or TV3 news. Probably the worst in the world.

740711 2009-01-21 04:43:00 In answer to the original question. Yes there are more whites than blacks in USA. BUT! the ceremony took place in Washington DC where 60% of the population is Black. bluenose (14548)

740713 2009-01-21 05:01:00 I think the lead story should be the most important NZ story.

Why?

I mean seriously, why?

Yeah, it's good to have Triangle/Stratos. Al Jazeera and the PBS Newshour are really good too. :)

Edit:

Is triangle on satellite vhf uhf?

Analogue and satellite. Its a shame it isn't on digital terrestrial yet. :(

740715 2009-01-21 06:41:00 Same applies here in New Zealand. How many Whites attended:

Tuheitia Paki king of New Zealand's Maori people coronation.

Lurking.

Well, that's fair enough, it's a Maori thingie :D

740716 2009-01-21 06:58:00 We lived in Pasadena, California for a few years and despaired of getting any international news. Everything on TV was about California or perhaps the US, but little outside the US. Then we found this channel KTLA Channel 5 who had a program called "The World at 10". It was a news program about...... yes, solely Los Angeles news! Everytime they went off for an ad break, they would say "The World at 10 will be back in a moment". And they'd come back with more news about LA.

But when you think about it, the LA area has a population of 15 million or so, and for many of its inhabitants, LA IS the world. Very little of what happens outside LA affects them, so why would they be interested? They're a pretty insular bunch, Americans.
