Now, I reckon they should put goats and sheep in to do the prison lawns.
Insert a cork into each one... when the pressure builds sufficiently... bang! another dead prisoner. Re-insert, and send goat back out to eat more lawn

Kill 2 birds with one stone :)

And how pray tell does that help our prison over population problem?

739773 2009-01-17 22:28:00 Just spray that stuff NZ Rail spray on the tracks to stop weeds coming up.
Wont need a lawn mower again.
Not sure the battery mower is green you are burning coal and natural gas at some far away power station to charge your battery.
Probaly take quite a few lumps of coal for the lawn.

Better than all that petrol your wasting with your buses.

739774 2009-01-18 03:41:00 I have been using electric mowers (am on my fourth) for the past 32 years and I highly recommend them.

I have rarely had any problem, although it is a bit inconvenient, at first only, having a power cord out behind you. As long as you move away from the power source you have no worries.

Have heard comments on how easy it is to cut the cord. You might do it once or twice. I have only done it twice in 32 years and that was shortly after I bought my first. You have to be either new to the game or a bit stupid to do it more than twice.

There is little noise (I don't annoy the neighbours) there are no smelly exhaust fumes and no smelly cooked grass and running costs are far less than a petrol mower.

Anyone who advocates buying a petrol mower has not been told of the advantages of an electric mower.

I have a fairly large section which takes an hour to mow. I simply plug it in and go. There is no buying mower petrol, I do not have to pull and pull and pull until it goes. There are no spark plugs to remove and clean. The only maintenance is sharpening the blade which is not difficult, just time consuming.

Can't understand why anyone would buy a petrol mower.:illogical

739775 2009-01-18 04:03:00 Some fair comments about electric mowers but it is the battery one I am considering getting. I have an electric (with a cord) line trimmer and don't really like it at all. Always scared I'm gonna electrocute myself with it! I got it with my Flybuys and gave the old petrol one away, It was too heavy for me to use, so thought the electric one would be lighter.

I will have to decide on the mower soon though, as I have a lovely crop of dandylions to deal to now!

The main thing with electric mowers is not to let the grass to get to long.

They are easy and quick to use, so do the lawns often if you can. I do mine weekly. ;)

PS Sometimes I do them weakly :banana

739777 2009-01-18 18:22:00 Also on electrics. Easy, fast, nice. Roscoe, yup, also cut through my first electric mower's cord about 30 years ago and got a little bit of a hurry-up. Never did it since - if you use simple rules with the cable it will never be in your way.

Ken! I'm surprised at you. Mowing the lawn is no joke!:horrified

Some years back, when I told my father I was going to sow some grass seed, he suggested that I soak the seeds in alcohol before sowing. "Makes mowing easier." When I asked why he replied, "Because the grass comes up half cut."
