2010-01-02 21:10:00 My dads friend brought her laptop around for me to look at, and we cant get it on the wired or wireless network, when hovering over the network icon in the notification bar, an balloon pops up saying "the dependency service or group failed to start" also there are errors in the event log " Event id: 7024 - the network location awareness service terminated with service specific error 3221226008 (0x0000218) She is running Vista Home Premium. I cant figure out whats going on, i went into the services and tried to start the correct service and it just terminates aidanmaz (7180)
2010-01-02 21:21:00 Is this on some kind of domain?? As it says here (social.technet.microsoft.com). Looks like it has something to do with group policy as well. Or as it says above it maybe a corrupt registry (support.microsoft.com)

Try using system restore

2010-01-02 21:27:00 No, its not on a domain, just a workgroup, i have a domain but this is seperate workgroup aidanmaz (7180)
2010-01-02 21:29:00 Could be a corrupt registry then. Or you'll have to go through these (www.google.co.nz rminated+with+service+specific+error+3221226008&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a) Speedy Gonzales (78)
2010-01-02 21:43:00 i did a system restore back to the 9th of last month, still has the same issues aidanmaz (7180)
2010-01-02 21:48:00 Has the laptop had a malware scan put through it - malware can cause all sorts of problems like this. wainuitech (129)
2010-01-02 21:54:00 all it has on here is norton 360, which is only several months through its 2 year subscription, i dont want to remove it as she just paid for it aidanmaz (7180)
2010-01-02 21:55:00 Well post a hijackthis log here. We'll soon see if Nortons is working :p Speedy Gonzales (78)
2010-01-02 21:58:00 Long shot -- Found This article here (allfaq.org) - its to do with A Server, but if you read the persons question it has the same error message - there are two MS KB links, the bottom one 313222 (support.microsoft.com) has a "fix it" along with manual fixes, it says its also for Vista Home Premium - so may just work.

Make a restore point first since you will be altering the reg.
