| 742137 | 2009-01-26 07:04:00 | a bit on tv tonight about tanker driver filling petrol tank up with diesel at wellsford mobil. did it affect anywhere here? how many here have accidently filled up with the wrong fuel before? i'm starting to hear quite a few sories of bad fuel causing major problems (blown diesels etc). i wonder how often the compaineis get the fuel stuffed up. |

| 742138 | 2009-01-26 08:19:00 | putting petrol in a diesel or vice versa is bad - if you do it get it drained on the spot and don't start it or drive it from what ive been told petrol in a diesel causes it to rev uncontrollably (8-10,000RPM) when it would only rev to its redline of say 4200rpm and the engine will destroy itself a friend of my parents put diesel in a petrol and drove it 120kms to our house to complain the car wasn't running good it ran but very badly and since she ran it for so long it was too far gone and had to be rebuilt just try not to do it and if you do get it drained and don't start the bloody thing as then you will ahve to flush and bleed the fuel lines and possibly get a new engine :annoyed: |

| 742140 | 2009-01-26 09:03:00 | I've put petrol in a diesel tractor before, some clever clown filled up the diesel container with petrol. Tractor ran ok, but was completely gutless. No crazy revving. After realizing what had happened I drained the tank and bled all the fuel lines, didn't appear to have any long lasting effects. That would have been roughly a 70/30 diesel/petrol mix. |

| 742144 | 2009-01-26 17:58:00 | Most Europeans put about 1L of petrol in each full tank of diesel in winter to stop the freezing it doesn't need to be much I did it for years in my diesel car with no side effects, although I would not put anymore than that amount in. Does anyone remember the old truckies lighting fires under their trucks diesel tanks to get the diesel flowing used to be a common site in England when I was growing up. I did that once. Its bollocks it will damage your car. At least putting diesel in your petrol vehicle. It may be more of an effort to clean it out is all, but if you didn't drive (like me) then it easy. |
