845924 2010-01-05 04:14:00 Getting a blue screen with a stop message on a Vista OS

Stop: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005,0x84F14113,0x88D6B780,0x88D6B47C)

Then a crash dump.

This PC has a dual boot with XP home & Vista.
XP is still booting ok.

845925 2010-01-05 04:24:00 Is it 32 or 64 bit Vista? And is it up to date? Is alcohol 120%, or daemontools installed on this?? Looks like these programs can cause that stop error. Does it show the name of a file or driver as well? What did you install, before this BSOD came up?? Anything? Speedy Gonzales (78)
845926 2010-01-05 04:37:00 Thank you speedy.

It will be 32 bit.
Don't know if it was up to date, not my system.
Could have anything installed on it. I believe the owner was trying to rip something prior to this.
I can boot into XP & have a look if you think it could be an alcohol related problem.

845927 2010-01-05 04:40:00 So when does it crash?? Before it boots into Vista, or while youre in it? If ccleaner is on the hdd, run it, and if daemontools and alcohol are installed, untick / disable their entries under tools / startup. Will it boot into safe mode without crashing? Speedy Gonzales (78)
845928 2010-01-05 04:52:00 It crashes before it boots.
Have tried last known good & safe mode with same results.
Have just booted into XP & had a look at Vista's program files but can't see either daemontools or alcohol.

845929 2010-01-05 04:54:00 I see Power DVD Rip Studios, that could what was being used. Driftwood (5551)
845930 2010-01-05 04:57:00 Hmm, remove the hdd if its in a desktop, then scan it with something in a working system. Make sure you jumper it properly if its IDE Speedy Gonzales (78)
845931 2010-01-05 05:03:00 That was going to be my next move.
What programs would you recomend, as a sequence of scanning.

845933 2010-01-05 05:36:00 Try using the tools in Vista -- Can the PC start in safe mode ( vista), if it does, click start, type in Performance look for Performance and Reliability Monitor in the results, click it, look under Reliability Monitor, there it will have a red circle with a white X at the exact time of the crashes, click it and it will tell you what has caused the problem ( or should). wainuitech (129)
