845459 2010-01-04 05:17:00 I'm still fiddling around trying to untar a tarball and I cannot find the Shell Command.

I think I've looked everywhere hopefully without damaging something.

I know I need to enter this command:"tar xvf filename.tar" on some line or in some box - but where?

I this Linux Command gonna work with PCLOS?

This is harder than Chinese Algebra.

Rather than asking in Chat why not ask in the PC help forum?

845461 2010-01-04 05:20:00 I told you this this morning (our time) in your scanner thread.

The command line in Linux is usually referred to as a terminal.
What you are looking for is in the start menu under all applications>system>terminals>konsole

Instructions on the untar command.

845463 2010-01-04 05:59:00 Joe, you don't need the command line (terminal) to decompress a tar archive.
You can also use Ark, it is in the Start (PC orb), under System-Archiving-Compression-Ark
Or right click on the tarball and select Open with Ark.en.wikipedia.org

Good Luck

845464 2010-01-04 10:07:00 Out of interest, what is in the archive you're trying to decompress - is it software? Erayd (23)
845465 2010-01-05 01:23:00 I'm trying to install the newest Firefox and Google updates and they come in as tarballs.

Maybe they shouldn't huh? Right now my current Firefox version is 2.0.0.1.

Errrrrr - I have no such right click option.

845467 2010-01-05 02:16:00 You are using PCLinuxOS?
What version?
That option is in both 2007 and 2009!
But never mind, just start Ark, navigate to the archive, open it then go edit select all, then action extract all.

If you look in synaptic you should see newer versions of Firefox.
