| 741443 | 2009-01-24 10:23:00 | Are you really sure the police here only use solid jacket ammunition?, I think you will find they use soft nose. The police aren't bound by the Geneva convention of warfare and they can use soft nose to stop collateral damage from speeding bullet after it hits the crook. What is starting to annoy me is, if the policeman hits an innocent its just a sad accident. If I accidently shoot my mate say poaching fallow deer in Woodhill Forest they are going to prosecute me with bells on. If I made a mistake at work and say killed someone by letting a jack down on them it wouldn't just be a tragic accident how bad too sad. Mr OSH would be paying me a visit and deep guano will follow. |

| 741444 | 2009-01-24 10:24:00 | Fatal shot fired by officer The post-mortem examination of 17 year-old Halatau Naitoko, who was fatally shot while travelling on the Northwestern Motorway yesterday afternoon, was carried out this morning and was attended by an ESR ballistics expert who has advised Police that the fatal shot came from a Police issue firearm..... five shots were fired by Police at the motorway scene yesterday. 'The firearms used by Police at the motorway scene were seized yesterday and all spent rounds have been accounted for,' Mr Shortland said. Oh dear So did the officer shoot the wrong person or was the shot person caught in the line of fire. Why can we not wait for this issue to come to trial? Wait for the evidence to be produced in court so that a fair trial may be obtained. That is whenever the system actually grinds into gear that is. |

What do you mean by evasion and equivocation? Do you mean that the police will evade and equivocate over the accidental shooting? |

| 741448 | 2009-01-24 19:04:00 | You seek to stop discussion? On a board built for discussing? Best of luck. No I do not seek to stop discussion. I encourage healthy debate in fact. The chat board allows people to discuss anything until a moderator steps in and bans a person or locks a thread. Hindsight is wonderful as this allows people not involved to judge the actions of others without knowing the facts. Then of course a thing called the truth is actually immaterial because I suspect that no person on this Chat forum attended the events. |

| 741450 | 2009-01-24 19:20:00 | An interesting comparison with this shooting is that when a dear shooter kills one of his mates the cops are real quick to throw the ticket book at him and go on TV saying that you should always verify your target before shooting. Guess they don't practise what they preach .. Problem is now that the new media will ring every ounce of anti police news out of it that they can if last nites 3News was any thing to go by.. |

Not just being able to shoot, but under circumstances none of us (hopefully) are likely to encounter. My deepest sympathies to the innocents and families caught up in a stupid act by an irresponsible individual. I agree about waiting for the full facts to emerge and not via a trial by media. |
