| 845354 | 2010-01-04 22:15:00 | This discussion has been very helpful to me. As I have said above I normally clone two 200 Gig drives as a backup. If the boot drive fails I can simply unplug it and boot off the other. I have checked out the Win7 image and it is very good and can be run on a schedule but would not allow you to restore just one file or folder or partition should you wish to do so. The other thought is that if you use the Win7 on a schedule you might just end up with an image that contains an update you didn't want or a virus or whatever so now you have whatever on both drives. Having said that I have a spare 80 Gig hard drive sitting around doing nothing so I will pop that in for a belt and braces solution. |

Windows 7 Complete PC backup, backs up into a VHD file, which you could mount on the same or another PC and extract a single file/folder Not quite the same as cloning |

| 845356 | 2010-01-04 23:22:00 | windows.microsoft.com Also, with the Seagate Image tool, one of the drives must be either Seagate or Maxtor. Not true. When you get the window that pops up with the error about needing a Seagate drive, before you click OK, press and hold CTRL+ALT then press T then O (think it stands for Tech Overide) then click OK and you will get the normal screen to clone/image your HDDs  Seagate have this in the software as some Seagate USB HDDs don't get detected correctly so people were complaining that they couldn't use the software. |

Don't get me wrong Nathan and thanks. I'm still going to pop another drive in and have a play anyway. |

Just finished restored my Win 7 OS + applications , etc. etc. from the image created, everything works just fine. I wish to thank you all for the inputs/ views, etc. :thanks Cheers |
