2010-01-05 09:45:00 | Speedy tried the link you gave and ran the program winmgmt /verityrepository and winmgmt /salvagerepository rebooted but it made no change to the program starting | Roger Hunt (13648) | |
2010-01-05 09:49:00 | So is NOD still installed?? If it is, you shouldnt run 2 AV programs at the same time. Leave WD disabled Get ccleaner, if you want to remove things from startup (go to tools/startup), after you install it. Altho, if you dont want daemontools to run on startup, you may as well uninstall it. You didnt untick any services under msconfig, did you?? Because you dont

2010-01-05 10:25:00 | Yes Nod still installed only use defender to get to software explorer.Daemon tools is used sometimes to view .ISO files in a virtual drive and once I use it it sets itself to auto start with windows.I have looked at the settings menu and don't see where to disable the start with windows bit. When I go to start/all programs/start up the folder is empty and as long as I remember it always has been. | Roger Hunt (13648) | |
2010-01-05 14:31:00 | Speedy I go to services.msc to make changes to programs start up options. | Roger Hunt (13648) | |
2010-01-05 19:33:00 | I uninstalled MSSE as it conflicted with Nod32. Mainly use Windows Defender to keep an eye on start up programs or programs like Daemon Tools that I am unable to stop from installing itself in the list of programs that start when Windows start . What?!! Windows Defender isn't for controlling what runs on start. Daemon Tools isn't that great anyway, just use no-cds, much better.

2010-01-07 07:57:00 | No I don't stop programs here I just keep an eye on any changes to the start up list. Have noticed that Windows Defender says it is running but Security center says its turned off. It is set to auto start in services so it might be just that Security Center has stopped monitoring it.If its as useless as you say then I won't bother about it as I seem to have plenty of options installed (not all running at the same time) | Roger Hunt (13648) | |
2010-01-07 19:08:00 | Well whether its on or off, if NOD32 is still installed and running. Use NOD32 instead. And ccleaner, and untick the daemontools entry if you dont want it to run on startup | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2010-01-07 22:12:00 | pctek this is from Windows Help and Support Stop a program from running automatically when Windows starts You can improve your computer's performance by preventing unnecessary programs from running automatically when Windows starts. Here's how: Click to open Windows Defender. Click the Tools button, and then click Software Explorer. In the Category box, click Startup Programs. Select the program that you want to prevent from running, and then click Disable. Click Yes to confirm that you want to stop that program from running. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for every program you want stop from running. This is what I was doing but now I use Glary Utilities to stop or delay the start up. Defender is running but Security Center says it is off

2010-01-07 22:13:00 | So is NOD32 still installed? If it is, forget about WD | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2010-01-07 22:21:00 | Speedy NOD32 is my main defense use Super Antispyware and Malware Bytes as on demand scanners if I think there may be a problem. Never had a virus as far as I know but there may be something hiding.Did an on line scan with PC Tools Pit stop and all it found was a crack for a repacked program. | Roger Hunt (13648) | |
