845828 2010-01-05 11:23:00 I had a similar problem when I first tried connecting my broadband, I cannot remember how I fixed it but it involved a few lines in the command prompt.... i think It was resetting the winsock tcp/ip, which you can do here
support.microsoft.com

oh and a way to check it would be to try pinging your router, and then pinging a website.
start>run> "cmd", tracert www.website.com , enter
see where it times out. If it doesn't hit your modem, give the winsock a reset.

845830 2010-01-05 22:16:00 Whats the ip of the router?? The log looks OK Speedy Gonzales (78)
845831 2010-01-05 22:18:00 @ 8ftmetalhaed Thanks for the input. I don't quite see the connection. I am not trying to setup broadband. Broadband has been running for years. I'm trying to get the desktop pc to talk to the router. The router is ok because the lappy i'm using atm is working thru it. It's just that the d/top can't login to the router. bluenose (14548)
845832 2010-01-05 22:20:00 So, whats the default ip to log into the router? And whats the brand/model of the router? Speedy Gonzales (78)
845833 2010-01-05 22:22:00 Speedy the ip is 192.168.2.1

I'm pleased the log is ok. I got a bit lost trying to run and understand the hijackthis screens.

mni tnx.

You could buy a PCI network card for $10 to rule out a ethernet port failure on the existing

845835 2010-01-05 22:29:00 Belkin F5D7234-4. Not the greatest maybe but replaced about 6 weeks ago under lifetime warranty and so far no problem. I don't believe that the router is at fault. I think it more likely to on the PC; but I am willing to be proved wrong. We can all learn from others and I've learned a lot from this forum. bluenose (14548)
845836 2010-01-05 22:30:00 Shouldnt this be something else besides 192.168.2.1 then??

I think youre getting an IP conflict. Change the IP in 2K to a valid one, within the router's valid IP range
