742072 2009-01-26 05:52:00 At work we have a laptop which has effectively died due to the power pack becoming unusable. it no longer lets power thro the cord due to it being fraid (sp?) to the point of no return. and since then the battery has died due to not being charged.

what i m asking is....... this power pack which we currently dont have because various computer places in town have tried to source a new replacement power pack cannot..... it i think is a NEC ? ( we have to track it down to see if the last place still has it and havent biffed it... :( ) and its input to lappie plug is a multi pinned one.... (going by memory here) are there any other ideas of how to fix or replace this power pack? as the lappie is still in good condition and approx 5yrs old and up till recently was still being used by all staff. it has lots of info on it, and photos and no method for us to retrieve it. :D clear as mud?

Thanks

742073 2009-01-26 05:59:00 NEC/Packard Bell are the most annoying laptops to get parts for. Have you tried laptopbattery.co.nz?

If you can't source a power pack, you data isn't lost. Any computer shop should be able to get your data off your hard drive & either burn it to a DVD or transfer it to a new computer.

742075 2009-01-26 08:49:00 Stop into your local Jaycar and see if one of their universal supplies fits. It's $77.90 for one that should do the job.

Can you tell I work there? :o

742078 2009-01-27 04:48:00 I'm pretty sure DSE sell that sort of "one size charges all" power brick

like this www.dse.co.nz

I'd be making sure that the ratings amps etc wise were correct though. DSE isnt going to win any pricing competitions but there's a ton of their stores about.

Those ones usually don't have the correct connections for packard bell laptops

742080 2009-01-27 07:49:00 If I understand correctly. The power supply unit is not the problem. The frayed lead IS. If that is the case, why not change the lead, wire, flex. PJ Poppa John (284)
742081 2009-01-27 08:20:00 Yes PJ it had been considered, but its a all in lead which means its not easy to replace without breaking open the power pak and then fix lead and how do you then get box to stay together? tape? and then we were told it may not be safe after breaking pak open. ???!!!??? nothing is meant to be easy a! lol
:D

But our first problem is to track down where the power pak has ended up...and if we can get it back!!!

si yes its just the lead that is the prob, but the lead is not easy to replace so a whole new power pak may be the easiest fix so to speak.

Thanks for all help so far..............

i will let you know if we get pak back and if we can fix...... or replace.
