847280 2010-01-09 09:35:00 Hey my mate has only had broadband in her house for about 4 months now. Originally it was only her laptop and her mums desktop pc. They never went near their data cap for the month. One of her brothers has just been given a computer for himself now they are reaching or exceeding the cap. Is there some way to limit how much data allowance her brother's pc can have per month? nedkelly (9059)
847281 2010-01-09 09:38:00 Use QOS in the router, (if it supports it), point it to his PC Speedy Gonzales (78)

847283 2010-01-09 10:23:00 You could also set the router to block all but the basic ports bob_doe_nz (92)

look way back in the old posts this and simular has come up before, and from memory there is a speed limiter tool you can use to strangle the offending connection, may need an, offending pc, server, router, path though.

847287 2010-01-09 19:48:00 There are mods for the Tomato Firmware which allow you to set a per-device data allowance. Requires you to invest ~$100-odd in a router which is Tomato-compatible but it's probably your best bet, as it means even in the event the OS on her brothers PC changes (Or he fiddles with Live Linux CD's for example) then it'll obey the data shaping. 847288 2010-01-09 20:36:00 Netlimiter ? (http://www.netlimiter.com/)

NetLimiter is an ultimate internet traffic control and monitoring tool designed for Windows. You can use NetLimiter to set download/upload transfer rate limits for applications or even single connection and monitor their internet traffic. Hmm someone needs to fix this forum. Its starting to slow down again

Better than the older cure's and probably the long term way to solve this issue for many people.
