847100 2010-01-08 08:52:00 Hi, I got a computer magazine hire at the public library which has the Win7 Pre Release CD .

I assume it cannot be used anymore .

I have a spare HDD . I can take out my current HDDs and install this empty new HDD and change the motherboard's date .

Will it work? What date should I backdate it to? How long can I use it?

PS . I couldn't download this big file since I am / was on 256k BB . :D

Cheers!

847101 2010-01-08 08:55:00 It will work, but the Release Candidate (the beta has long expired) will start shutting down every two hours in March and stop working altogether in June IIRC. pcuser42 (130)
847102 2010-01-08 18:02:00 Can you elaborate?
I'll do a search.

If I pushed back the motherboard clock and the windows clock at least I get a few months of trying it out right ......

Prob be a year later til I go Win7 when I get the RAM upgrade, upgrading at the moment would be a hassle. My WinXP works but having said that it could be a hobbyist thing, many large workplaces still have Win2k, some of them only went XP 2yrs ago.

847103 2010-01-08 19:21:00 I'm not sure if changing the clock for that reason is legal :xmouth: pcuser42 (130)
847104 2010-01-08 19:40:00 I dont think changing the clock will make any diff. Its probably in the software, when it'll expire. Speedy Gonzales (78)
847105 2010-01-08 19:41:00 And where's it getting the date from Speedy? ;) pcuser42 (130)
847106 2010-01-08 19:48:00 Space somewhere :p Speedy Gonzales (78)
847107 2010-01-08 19:49:00 Uh huh. :stare: pcuser42 (130)
847108 2010-01-08 19:59:00 Looks like its got a set timebomb in it. (like the betas). And youre right. It'll die slowly from 1/3/2010. And shut down every 2 hrs till June Speedy Gonzales (78)
847109 2010-01-08 20:04:00 A pity March 1 is my birthday. :( :p pcuser42 (130)
