743942 2009-02-03 08:36:00 i hate bikes for that reason, dad wouldnt let me get one when i was 15 and now i thank him. although il ride a dirt bike until my muscles seize up

i only asked if you killed anyone to add to my argument that not everyone crashes and kills

a rule i always follow in my head is that everyone in the car should feel safe so drive within your limits, wherever that may be

743943 2009-02-03 08:39:00 And comfort isnt much of a sacrifice when the car feels so much better to drive, most mods actually make the car safer anyway

You didn't just say that did you?

Name 5 - that are popular among boy racers.

And the car feels better to drive? Explain that. Lets say you lower it / cut the springs and then harden them up if they're adjustable. The only thing that feels better is the idiot driving when he gets people looking at his low bumpy car scraping over bumps. Bet he feels cool.

I've got a couple of mods done to my car (done by previous owner though) however now are illegal nor very dangerous. Lowered on Kings, bigger injectors, no rev limiter, pod filter - all very minor (also a couple of cosmetic ones)

743944 2009-02-03 08:39:00 No, absolutely not.

They contribute to global warming :) ;)

thats true, but they also use more gas therefor the owners are payin more tax so they deserve the right to that extra polution

743945 2009-02-03 08:48:00 only idiots cut springs, im not sure if your thinking of the datsun wagons draggin along the road or properly done cars

Im not sure about 5 safe mods but popular mods can be positive

Lowering - pretty obvious what that does for the cars handling
Shocks - upgrading shocks improves handling (steering response and feel)
Bigger/Wider wheels - better grip in all conditions
Exhaust/filter mods - improves fuel economy most the time

They are very common mods, are any of them unreasonable or dangerous?

Lowering - Sure, around a race track maybe.
Shocks - I'll give you that one
Bigger/Wider wheels - You can have that one too
Exhaust/filter mods - Now really, do you think people who put bigger exhausts on their cars for example do it to improve fuel economy? No, they do it to make their car louder (and a lot of the time illegal)

Where's number 5?

And cmon, what are the main mods boy racers do to their cars:

Bigger Turbos
Bigger Engines
BOVs/Waste Gates (another noise thing)
Chipped ECUs

And I could go on. But in the end it come's down to half of the mods actually being illegal (no cert) and half the time not done professionally or even properly.

743947 2009-02-03 08:59:00 Great ideas !
Especially number 2

It's not the police, its the weak justice system. And the fact that the govt has let boy racing get out of hand.

I don't mind them doing burnouts in a safe place, but when I see them cutting corners and spinning out at 4pm in the afternoon, when there are lots of people around I get really annoyed.

I don't know where all these boy racers go but I can't remember the last time I saw one. Sounds like a problem in ChCh (aka Boganville) but talk of a weak Justice system is nonsense, the laws exist now to confiscate them and crushing cars is just plain stupid. How the Govt is meant to be responsible for this is beyond me, the Police have the clout now, they should use it.

743948 2009-02-03 09:01:00 why do i have to give 5, i gave you examples of positive mods

im confused as to what breed of boy racers your talking about, theres cheap and nasty and then the ones who do it properly

why would someone spend big bucks on upgradin turbos and custom tunes and then dump there car on the ground with cut springs?

from what i see it is mostly older cheap japas which are being thrashed around town, probaly because the owners dont care about them

743949 2009-02-03 09:06:00 Meh. Boy racer cars don't look that great anyway. Don't like Subarus. Evos look alright, X being my favorite.

If I was to buy a proper performance car, I'll get an FPV or HSV. Or at least the lower models XR6/8 or VE Commodore (soon VF!).

i agree with that, largely because they all look the same and are mostly loud and showy without any real peformance gain

HOLDEN ftw :p

There's only one breed of boy racers. Sure, some do it cheap, some do it properly but it doesn't change the fact they're boy racers.

Boy racers drive round town/the streets in their tuned up little jap cars speeding, driving dangerously thinking they're invincible etc and if they don't do that then they're participating in illegal skid meets at night.

People who do up their cars for races/drags ON THE TRACK or as show cars only are not (really) boy racers. Respect to them.
