743912 2009-02-02 22:31:00 The only thing that will hurt them is taking their cars away from them.

Fine them they wont pay
Take their license they will still drive
Imprison them cost too much money and hooning shoundnt be a capital offence.

The cars all they have, most of them are too short (height and you know what) and skinny or short and fat and dont have girl friends.
I like doing a wheelie just like any hot blooded kiwi bloke, used to give it death around Swanson Don Buck roundabout in RX7 S1 but with 13B.

743913 2009-02-02 22:35:00 The flaw in that plan is that the cars will have money owing on them. Cops wont be able to crush what doesn't belong to them. And selling them just puts them back into circulation.

Anyway, Its not the cars, its the behaviour. I can raise merry hell on a skateboard.

743914 2009-02-02 22:45:00 I didnt say crush I meant confiscate the car.
I am now not so sure on crushing its a bit like the death penalty. What would happen if the car was rare say a classic or vintage crushed means its gone for ever. They save stupid old buildings from the demo mans big digger why not cars they are heritage too.
Maybe only crush Jap cars I dont know but all out crushing might be too harsh.
I think some people want a mobile crushing plant at the police road blocks etc but really this is just going too far look back at crime it dosent rate like murder, rape, stealing stuff does it.

743915 2009-02-02 22:52:00 the rules are not the problem, we dont need tighter rules.

we need the current rules inforced correctly.
there are rules for speeding, rules for driving with out a licence.

problem is that the cops are handing out the minimum fines.
often I have seen a restricted driver get let off for driving with passengers at midnight.

they already have the powers to take the cars of repeat offenders but they don't.

driving with out a licence?
often just a small fine...

make the cops hand out the max fines more often, make the judges hand out time behind bars more often.

743916 2009-02-03 00:09:00 I don't know whether there are any laws regulating the noise levels of exhausts but if there are they don't appear to be policed very well . And if there aren't then they should introduce them .

The "boy racers" hoon up and down Bealey Ave every Friday and Saturday night and can be heard several blocks away . The residents and motels are heartily sick of it and the hospital even has to move patients over to the other side of the grounds away from the road as the noise upsets the patients so much .

MAF can and does confiscate all gear, including car, boat, trailer, etc from fishermen, divers, etc if they are caught with undersized or too many fish, etc so why can't the police do that to the boy racers? The proceeds can then be put towards paying their fines and any funds remaining goes into the government coffers . Let the finance companies chase the offenders up for paying off the rest of their loans . That will hurt .

As for putting responsibility on the parents, what the heck can they do? I wouldn't like to try locking an 18-year-old who is bigger than me in his room against his will . And once they move out of your house you have no control over them whatsoever .

As others have said, give them one warning and fine then confiscate their vehicles if they offend again . Permanently .

And another thing, you don't go putting a bigger fan on your CPU because your heatsink paste has dried up and blown away, you go and clean it and put some new stuff on it.

Translation: Fix the cause of the problem, not the results of it.

Until recently this came under the heading of being a public nuisance, They didn't police it very well, the courts let them go with a small fine, the usual BS. Last year specific regulations were introduced to target loud exhausts,Has it had any effect?....yes, extra cost for motorcyclists as the WOF centres and cops hit them hard with it. requiring complience certification and all sorts of other BS.

Boy racers and their cars seem not to have noticed and not to be bothered.

They start earlier then that, and many have parents that aren't in the slightest concerned when they should be. The day my boys try and act like men around the house they will be leaving the house, they can go be men in the big bad world.

That aside, I was thinking more along the line of Dad giving youngster a crack, trying to lock anyone in their room is never going to work. There comes a time when Mum is no longer a threat and its time for Dad to take care of business.

In Nelson this is being policed strictly - you have two options - get your exhaust volume down to a legal level and get it certed. This is damned expensive. 2nd option is to put it back to factory. Like, 100% factory. That is also damn expensive because it's hard to get hold of factory exhausts in decent enough condition.

Loud exhaust is an immediate green sticker. It's working really well as far as I can tell, for getting exhaust volumes down. No one wants to have to deal with a cert, as it's basically a re-vin, and all kinds of silly other things get picked up too, the car has to be 100% perfect to pass this. Which, face it, most older cars, boy racer spec or not, will have a long list of things to be fixed.

Right down to that cracked sway bar bush.

743920 2009-02-03 01:40:00 I think that the problem will never be solved in any event.

We have laws already that say Murder is an offence but people still do this.

I would like to bring back caning in schools along with compulsory military training.

Along with rights should also come responsibilty for actions that affect other people.

Also I am of the opinion that schools should be teaching parenting skills as a compulsory subject along with cooking skills. Unfortunately Parents have little say on how their offspring are disciplined these days.

The thing that comes to mind for me is that whatever community people live in then it is over to the community as a whole to try to keep something like law and order.

Oh wait. Some people want sovereinty, some people want to walk where they like even on private property. Some people want to walk here and there without a person demanding a Koha. Much like School fees I would think. Well the school fee is a donation is it not?

Interesting, I doubt its being done in Wanganui, During the weekend I can hear the cars for miles around, They have got to be hitting 100 mph.

This is all through the night, can hear em coming from miles away.
