At the end of the day I think the word greedy is certainly out of place, and whilst these people werent exactly the most financially literate people on earth, many of them did seek advice from a professional did they not?? So I think calling them stupid isnt exactly correct either, thats what you should do where your expertise is lacking. |

| 743216 | 2009-02-01 19:14:00 | johcar - But the tax implications are more complicated. Terry Porrit - I didnt know that the definition of stupid and greedy included poor old ladies who had worked hard all their life and who did the smart thing by consulting a so-called expert advisor, who told them to invest in a company that would tell her that she was buying an apartment when actually they were sellig her a carpark...or nothing. And stupid for he rnot asking if the advisor was receiving corrupt kickbacks......and how greedy of her to want a return only a measly 2% higher than term deposit rates. Ok we will exclude little old ladies from being accused of being stupid and greedy, that was rather harsh anyway. But 20 years ago in 1987 they weren't so old, and it has been said repeatedly over the years not to put all ones eggs into one basket. But by the same definition I am also a poor old man who has worked hard ( ? :) ) all his life, passed his 3 score and 10, just live on pension, but am not fooled by these "johnny come lately" so called expert wizz kids. |

| 743217 | 2009-02-01 19:30:00 | I dont know why people put their money into finance houses, mostly the finance house gives unsecured small loans which people can walk away from (NAP, anyone, bankruptcy is a joke). Property has always been the best investment, always will be.... |

It only illustrates the the falseness of the economy, start a war and down goes the unemployment rate, why not get people digging holes in sand on beach, then next day all filled in,so they can start again,it's just as futile. |

The governors of the reserve bank and economists have told us thousands of times kiwis are investing too much in the property market but it fell on deaf ears. I wouldn't be surprised now if property values fall 60 to 70% from prices at begining of 2008. The recession hasnt even really started here yet the pain is still to come. |

| 743221 | 2009-02-02 11:44:00 | 1/2 you got to be kidding. He is just a perfect liberal troll. I dont know what pulls an economy from deep recession. Roosevelt did a bit of stuff with his new deal, a chicken on every table and two cars in the garage etc but it was WW2 that threw off the depression. Big spending on armaments. Although it was the depression and reparations that started the run into WW2. So maybe a another big war would do it and thats easy just attack Iran and the world will be on fire again. So let us have another BIG war. So North Island vs South Island like the American Civil War. Possibly just the rest of NZ vs Auckland. I would think that like most of PressF1 members you are a product of your upbringing as I am. Starting a war is easy. Start with your neighbour next door as some people do. Then of course we can send all the politicians and civil servants in on the front line. On the other hand you say that you do not know how we get out of the recession. Have your war if you want to. |

No I dont really know how to get of a recession thats the job of economists that have degree thingies from places like Harvard. Just making a flippant statement that depression was taken care of by WW2. Not sure if you are serious or taking the piss. |
