744042 2009-02-03 07:33:00 One thing I noticed is that almost 95% of the people that asked questions in the auction doesn't bid at all... SKT174 (1319)

Because they have the answers they want, hence they do not have to bid

744044 2009-02-03 09:41:00 Yea they ask questions and don't even bid

Or they ask what is a fixed price when they don't even bid $ 5.00 !

That's what I was meaning about my thread topic

They are the bane of TM Digby. The ones who ask stupid questions are the worst you dont really want them winning your auction because they are going to cause you grief. I just transfer them to the blacklist.
Another problem I had was people who come to view my tent never turned up on time they said they would. If they were later than 10 minutes I didnt let them in.

744046 2009-02-03 12:09:00 We've sold a significant number of items (slightly less than twenty) on Trademe. Almost all of the people we have interacted with have been nice and friendly, some particularly so. Mrs Misty says to me that each one doesn't have to end up being my friend. However, why not !

We did get one woman though that bought our old spare bed when we bought a bigger one for visitors. She then hedged and eventually said that her mum had asked her to buy it but then didn't have any money. We ended up wasting three weeks and had storage problems. She never actually saw the bed so that was not the problem. I noticed she created a similar experience for someone else. That person did not write anything but I did and gave her heaps. At least she did apologise.

Most items go well, though we have had to advertise more than once on quite a few items. Gave up on jigsaws though - we had twenty-three and one group of four we shipped to the South Island. Got excellent feedback. No pieces missing. With all the work we only got $20 for the group of four. So the other nineteen we gave away to mental health patients. Nice feedback for doing that. We also give our spare books (have been several hundred) to the Auckland City Mission.

Mostly it's worth doing the work - the big thing is you end up with less clutter, a few extra dollars and someone else gets to use what had become superflous to you. Am almost always glad have listed on Trademe.

Misty :)

744049 2009-02-05 08:42:00 I buy and sell on TM and have had only one bad experience in over 200 trades, a woman bought a theatre ticket and never paid. She didn't get the ticket either, but got the only red face I've ever had to give.

I don't worry if an item doesn't sell quickly either, I learned the ropes with Trade & Exchange long before TM appeared and the very first truism I discovered was that every item has a buyer so be patient. I've waited over six months to get my price for the strangest of items, but it has always sold.

The second lesson I learned was, as a buyer, that no matter how obscure the item, one day somebody will be selling it so I put up a watch and in the end I get it, no matter how unusual. Nothing is unique in this world and I've looked for some weird items I can tell you.

Blacklisting people who ask questions is plain idiocy, you are there to sell so who cares what is asked, just answer it. IMHO it is stupid to miss out on a potential sale like that. I've been black listed for asking a question to confirm a minor detail before I took a Buy Now and it was the seller's loss because I really wanted to buy there and then, I only needed to clarify one point. I bought the next one that was listed instead.

TradeMe is as good or as bad as YOU choose to make it.

There were a lot of scambusters forum members posting questions on the computer auctions a couple of years ago. getting auctions pulled for stupid reasons.
