It's interesting though, that the only people who seem to be able to make derogatory remarks or jokes about the maoris are the maoris themselves (for example, Howard Morrison or Bill T James.) That also seems to be the case for most minority cultures in our country. Why is it then that anyone is able to cast as many aspersions as they like against the Irish? Not that the Irish worry, become upset, offended or complain, but it does seem curious that nobody goes screaming to the authorities over people cracking Irish jokes. Double standards, not only for the majority but for maoris as well. PC gone mad.:illogical It's a pretty universal thing. Look at Chris Rock making fun of black people in america. Look at Mel Gibson using it as a defence after making The Passion. Isn't that the way it should be? I'm certainly more knowledgable about 'minority group I belong to' than someone who doesn't, and as such I'm able to criticize it much better.	shermo (12739)

743810	2009-02-02 10:42:00	I am planning on staying home. Feb the 6th means nothing to me as I feel the day is divisive. This in so far as some people get a rent a crowd and of course the media reports whatever they feel like reporting. Not only that. I would have to go through Auckland and that does not impress me much either. Mind you I just treat people as I find them regardless of Ethnic background. I also expect people to accept me for the way I am or not as the case may be. If they don't well it is no skin off my nose anyway.	Sweep (90)
