846971 2010-01-08 22:31:00 i just want to make sure :

1st i go to the bios and change first boot to disk, save changes

2nd i put in the windows 7 upgrade disk and restart

Put the DVD in first. Dont forget to press a key when it says to so the DVD will boot. Otherwise, it'll boot into windows. When it finishes then reboots, DON'T press a key again, otherwise it'll start all over again. Leave it till it gets to the setup / install screen again

3rd i go through the steps until i hit upgrade or fresh install

Dont select upgrade, select the other option.

4th i choose fresh install

5th i reformat hdd

and 6 follow the steps until installation is complete

is this correct i just want to make 100% sure ive got it right so i dont make the issue any worse, if that was possible

The rest sounds right. Dont forget to select the right partition to format (if there's more than 1 partition). If Vista is on another partition, I would delete all partitions, then recreate them (if you want more than 1 partition)

846972 2010-01-08 22:56:00 the FULL instructions are in post 29 along with pictures and a warning, since this is an upgrade DVD, not OEM or Retail version. wainuitech (129)

846977 2010-01-09 04:38:00 NO ! Dont put Nortons on it, its crap. And its not free forever. Its only free because it came with the mobo Speedy Gonzales (78)
846978 2010-01-09 04:39:00 ok so which should i get, AVG, avira, Microsoft or avast? smithinator (15240)
846979 2010-01-09 04:41:00 I told you. Avast is OK, but you'll have to go to the Avast site and reregister it every 18 mths. Never tried Avira. And I would avoid AVG Speedy Gonzales (78)
