743094 2009-01-30 06:09:00 So the ISPs have people looking at torrents and video streams? Wouldnt the shear volume make this difficult?

Also I wonder what the percentage is of people who do break copyright. Are there stats on such things?

743095 2009-01-30 07:42:00 ISPs are idiots and should just ignore all this BS. johnnyfrango (14148)
743096 2009-01-30 07:57:00 I think TPB like to fake some IP addresses on their tracker and as such your IP address can turn up as downloading a file even though you may have never used bittorrent in your life Agent_24 (57)
743097 2009-01-30 08:02:00 I know my IP number changes everytime I reconnect. Which is often because Xtra is just Xtra crap.

Do they recycle the IP numbers for people on Go Large or something?

743099 2009-01-30 08:57:00 I think most of the ISPs here do, don't they?

Personally I like it. Never needed a static IP anyway

743100 2009-01-30 08:59:00 I use uTorrent to download tv shows such as lost, I source the torrent files from TPB. I used to watch each episode on youtube in the early seasons but now the production company removes them minutes after they are put on youtube so torrents are the only way. The thing I don't get is that the episodes are broadcast free on tv and about a month later they are broadcast here yet it is still considered illegal to watch something that you can watch for free anyway. I hope ISPs don't get too severe about downloading tv shows.

I understand that downloading movies is bad since movie companies are losing out on a lot of revenue, but tv shows don't recieve revenue directly from the viewer.

Also it is not like torrent downloaders are selling bootleg dvds in markets they are only downloading for personal use, usually.

Think of it more that those channels did originally pay to have the right to show that programme.

Yep, try and go "open source" with tv programmes, and you'll find that nobody would produce them, because they couldn't afford to pay the actors, or that the actors would be part timers who wouldn't do the show justice.

Don't know if they do. Not very educated around networking. :S

This non-static IP thing is going to be the death of connections for completely innocent people then right? If every time someone reconnects and their IP is changed, what if they get the IP of someone who was caught downloading illegally?

God, someone shoot these politicians!!!

743103 2009-01-30 09:56:00 If you have Telstra Cable you have a static IP address automatically at no extra cost.

I say extra cost because ISP's will give you a static IP address, but with some, it costs the person who wants it.

So if your IP is static and you download things you know are illegal then its very obvious to the ISP who is doing it - the owner of the account.

Heres the good bit ->

Now if a family member (kids mainly) are downloading what they are not meant to , then the first time it may be found out is when the parents (account owner) suddenly gets a letter ---- Watch the sparks fly - as I know for a fact MANY parents have no idea what their little angels are up to.

(saw an example of that this morning- the mother - you should have seen her face )
