742612 2009-02-02 20:40:00 It is dumb that this century I have drive through miles of 30 mph built up area to get to Airport from Glen Eden. prefect (6291)
742613 2009-02-02 21:04:00 Nah its not *that* long a drive to the airport .. its an airport remember, its not supposed to be uber-accessible, they should be kept out of the way IMO!

2 billion dollars is a BIG waste IMO!

Fix the traffic issues with the existing motorways (Such as the congestion issues at Gt North Road and Te Atatu Road).
Ive got some darn good suggestions, but the politicians never seem interested ...

742614 2009-02-02 23:51:00 You are probably right 2 billion to save about 15 minutes to the air strip might be excessive.
That roundabout you speak of might be a worry to fix because roundabouts are the fastest movers of traffic.
I hate the other end Te Atatu rd south motorway onramp to city.
Blardy buggers stay in outside lane (lane for Te Atatu North) and cut across at the last moment to exit.

Why would you say that airports aren't supposed to be accessible? I think it's quite stupid that a tourist who comes into the country and wants to head north has to drive along a motorway, get off that motorway and drive through suburbs before getting on another motorway to continue their trip. It should be very easily accessible imo.

742616 2009-02-03 08:56:00 Accessible yes, but they dont need a direct route to everywhere. Well signposted should suffice in-general I would say, but I highly doubt its worth spending $2,000,000,000 on! Thats a LOT of zeros!

You could wire the whole freakin country for much!!!

742617 2009-02-04 07:54:00 I agree they don't need a direct route everywhere, but a direct route north and south would be quite nice. roddy_boy (4115)
742618 2009-02-05 09:16:00 I think the tunnel is probably right off the agenda now, it is just too expensive, however they should still build the road but on the surface like they do everywhere else. So some people will have to move? So what, few people are that wedded to their house these days and if a fair price is paid many might be quite happy to slope off and live elsewhere.

It is not just about airport traffic though, it is about movement of goods and services as well, and the daily movements of ordinary people. The way it is at present the airport traffic stuffs up a lot of other people in unrelated areas so improving airport access from West Auckland is a very good idea and has wide ranging benefits for other traffic routes.

The money they save by not digging a tunnel would allow a lot of urgent work to be done in other localities as well, in fact it's probably just about enough to build a second harbour crossing.

Cheers
