846561 2010-01-07 20:16:00 installed the protectsmart file and now there are no ! in device manager:clap

but the issue of the touch buttons remain:stare:

however i may have found a solution which is:

shutdown laptop
remove battery and power cable
hold down the power button for 45 seconds
leave it for a few minutes, reinsert battery and it should be sweet.

i've done all that except for turning it back on, breakfast calls:p.

will post back soon

846562 2010-01-07 21:42:00 dammit!!! i turned it back on and the light for the mute button went orange breifly then turned white as it was booting up.

the mute button works but it just doesnt register with the change of light.

i unistalled the driver, rebooted, ran ccleaner reg cleaner, then installed the driver, still no go.

im at a loss, it works kinda so....

846563 2010-01-07 21:48:00 I wouldnt use reg cleaners you'll make things worse. Did you check for updates in windowsupdate? Speedy Gonzales (78)
846564 2010-01-07 21:51:00 ooops i meant the registry cleaner part of ccleaner.

846565 2010-01-07 22:05:00 It may be that you will just have to put up with it, until HP get around to a proper driver for
your machine.:p Hopefully there are a hundred little HP gnomes industriously working away on it right now!:D
In the mean-time at least it functions, even if not indicating that it does.
Sorry I can't help further but there just aren't correct drivers yet it would seem.
You could contact HP but I don't think it will make a difference.

846569 2010-01-14 21:54:00 just a final update: i posted the problem on the HP help site and got a reply when i checked today.

they suggested it was the audio driver as the W7 one did not give the functionality of the buttons.

installed the audio driver from the HP site and it now works!!!!!!!!

yusss.

thanks everyone for all your help, glad this one's out the way
