At the end you say economably viable and I would not bother but others do just because they can.

i think you read it wrong...

it's just a warning that you should be very sure before you do a secure wipe, because it is very near imposable to get data back after you push the button.

and this is fine if you are just re-using the disk for yourself.

but if you are giving / selling the disk to some else, then I would look at doing a secure wipe first.
