That would mean that the vehicles are comprehensively insured and the insurance companies usually demand that no modifications are done. If the insurance companies woke up, the lack of credit would solve part of the problem.

743874 2009-02-01 21:49:00 NAC Insurance were fine with my MX5 being lowered, lightened flywheel, rims, completely new custom exhaust system, custom tail lights, custom steering wheel, LCD screen, 6x9's, DVD / mp4 player headdeck, custom foot pedals ... just to name a few ;)
Price was no different with or without those they said, it was the alarm that made the difference, and the fact I was under 25.

Man I miss that car :(

743875 2009-02-01 22:10:00 Why cant the HP or finance companies make the loanee take out a crushcar insurance plan with the loan. That way the finance companies wouldnt lose out. Also I believe if the crook used Mums car it still should be crushed but not if stolen.
I wouldnt be fan of instant crushing on the side of the road its a bit like summary execution but crushed say before 7 days in a walled off yard somewhere.
Too true if the nasty labor government was in they wouldnt do it because it might impact on the crooks human rights.
Those crooks who ambushed the cops just did the dumbest thing this century and their mates are going to get it because of them.
Remember a lot of cops like hot cars to and really like doing wheelies but since they got the bash the boy racer crooks are in deep guano now.
You might call them boy racers in CHCH and the SI but in West Auckland we call them other things driving pathetic 4 cylinder Nip cars.

743876 2009-02-01 22:21:00 Crushing the cars is a waste. They should be sold and the profits taken by the police as compensation for having to put up with these idiots Agent_24 (57)

Supposedly there were only about 40 actually involved in the bottle throwing. The 250 gutless wonders watching it happen are probably the ones blaming young idiots for spoiling it for the rest.

I thought they did. From what I read somewhere they sold them, but they could only take the costs of the fines. Anything else had to be returned to the vehicle owner.

This doesn't make any sense. They're already breaking the law so you propose to change the law. How about enforcing some of the penalties already in place instead.

As an aside, I heard a boyracer crash into a power pole and saw the aftermath. I'd be suprised if he survived based on the state of the car. From the blowoff valves he'd just changed into 4th, so that would put him at about 80+k in a 50 zone. Maybe they'll all eventually die off.

If they are sold who's going to buy them? The same dumb ****s that lost the car in the first place for their stupid behaviour - or one of their mates.

I'm all for crushing the cars - one warning, then smush!! No second chances. Get these cars (and their idiot owners) off the road.

If the car is stolen, it should be returned (and the boy-racer caught driving it punished to the full extent of the law - such as it is :groan:).

If it's financed, tough luck. The finance company shouldn't have financed a boy-racer. The owner would be liable to the finance company anyway - perhaps the law could be amended so the finance company could seize other, and/or future, assets of the offender.

Compulsory 3rd party insurance would go a long way to getting these cars off the road. No insurance (and insurance companies could stipulate no modifications and issue insurance, or not, based on this criteria), then no registration or WOF could be issued. If a vehicle was found in this condition, smush!

This boyracer thing never really started until the Jap imports came into the country, so ban the Jap imports or restrict what models can be imported.
