2009-01-31 08:16:00 | I don't see a single rugby ball anywhere on the website :p Cheers :) Referees, not players. The favicon is a whistle... :) I'm sure there will be plenty of balls when I get content for the Gallery pages

2009-01-31 08:28:00 | Ok, you asked for opinions, so here goes: Small horizontal scroll at 1024x768 (nearly 50% current screens use this @ Jan 08) Homepage: No page summary of who you are or what this site contains. Headlines and nav links: Should be left hand aligned, not centred for easier skim reading and on screen readers Links should be more clearer about the content they link to, these also act as keywords, so for example: Clubs --> Club details Skills --> Referee vocubulary lists Appointments --> say what sort Credibility - who owns this site or maintains it, how "official" are they etc. This could be covered by the home page summary. Hmm ... that's it off the top of my head. :p Edit: Ok, I hadn't finished after all ... The news items are good on the homepage as they show the website is current. Adding more specific dates instead of "recently" also gives the reader an idea of how fresh the page is. :) Cheers Jen. Looks like I forgot to factor in the width of the vertical scroll bar!! I shall fiddle with my stylesheet for the BodyTitles... Maybe I should create a News Archives page so the home page isn't cluttered up with a site summary and any news items.... Good idea about dating the articles... EDIT: And amend the menu link descriptions...

2009-01-31 08:38:00 | Maybe I should create a News Archives page so the home page isn't cluttered up with a site summary and any news items.... Good idea about dating the articles...Keep some new snippets on the home page - they can link to the news archive page for full details if they contain a lot text. By regularly updating the news snippet on the home page, it makes it look fresh, updated and search engines like new content. New snippets just need a bit of summary or lead in to grab attention with a link to the full article. Homepages are supposed to be a landing pad and launching pad to other parts of the site, without too much text content themselves. For example, the news snippets could look like: Leon Williamson (NZ) Caps Off Fantastic Year, Award Congratulations to Number 1 New Zealand Referee Leon Williamson who won the Referee/Umpire of the Year in the Sporting Excellence Awards held on January 18 2009 in Auckland. Further award details Australian Opportunities Supported By Auckland Board For the past three years Auckland Rugby League Referees Association have sent two referees and a coach to the New South Wales Secondary Schools Carnival held in August. This Tournament is the culmination of dozens of statewide area competitions from which the champions progress to hopefully become NSW State Grand Champions. It is naturally considered very prestigious. Most NRL clubs have scouts looking for players competing at this event ... Hope this is helpful - I've been doing a bit of study of web content recently hence the sudden rush of opinions. :p

2009-01-31 08:40:00 | It's all good!! The links to further detail - are they separate pages or just a single "News" page? | johcar (6283) | |
2009-01-31 08:42:00 | Clubs and Grounds could be sorted into regional sections. e.g Upper North, Aucks, Waikato, East Coast BOP etc Rules could be in it's own category as well. Shield Logo corners could be left transparent? A light bluish off white tinge instead of a 'gradient' white to blue background

2009-01-31 08:46:00 | It's all good!! The links to further detail - are they separate pages or just a single "News" page? They just go to a single "News page". If you have lots of news articles, then it would be ideal to have the link jump to that part of the page. Don't forget the TOP nav link if your news page is lengthy. :) | Jen (38) | |
