2009-01-29 23:18:00 | Not the Empire apartments. They're awful. And there were cockroaches in our rooms. And the mattresses seemed to be two pieces of plywood with springs in the middle. And MOTAT bored the hell out of me. And it's tatty.

2009-01-29 23:36:00 | Cheap means seedy and dangerous give her some money so she can stay in Hotel That's the best thing Auckland has going for it. Had a cracker of a time living in a backpackers in Fort street and mixing with Aucklands finest. Seedy living. Seedy bars. Seedy people. Lots of Rock n Roll.

2009-01-29 23:38:00 | Yeah Base backpackers (the one Metla is probably talking about) would be the way to go. | roddy_boy (4115) | |
2009-01-29 23:46:00 | The backpackers I stayed at had a bar on the very top level,I believe it was called the Bar at the end of the universe?,or Bar at the end of the world maybe. Directly across the road was a bar that opened onto the street and it had two giant white pianos in it facing each other, Every Wednesday night they would have Westie Wednesday where the drinks were $1 a shot of hard stuff.

2009-01-30 00:49:00 | That hotel looks good. Tiny, but clean and safe and a handy location. A few minutes after I posted, I did a review look and found that HF1 is is a 'you get what you pay for' place. e.g Rooms cleaned less than daily, service etc. There is also the Rydges Hotel which is one block from the Sky Tower. It's pricer at around $150-$250 a night. But tour operators use them a lot. Just do a Google search for the Hotel Name and the location e.g Formule 1 Auckland And click on the reviews section. You'll get a better idea than just word of mouth

Been to Akl once or twice, but not to see the sights. Got no idea what she likes but I know she's been to see the Chinese Clay Army in Wgtn last week. sarel |
