742719 2009-01-28 23:37:00 Thanks all (even Susan, I deserve the hate), seems I've quite a convincing case.

Interesting thing was that there were technically two of us at fault and they were going to split the bill between us, but I think I'll just take all of the blame so my work colleague doesn't have to bother trying to get out of it too.

742720 2009-01-29 00:41:00 Yawn. If you can't do something as simple as put the right mail in the right bag then get an easier job. Like picking up rubbish.

Exactly.

Years back, before the post office was split into the three, we, on the telecom side, could do overtime helping out at the CPO sorting mail. When I saw the small amount intelligence on the faces of most workers, I was amazed that any of the mail reached its correct destination, so after my experience with mail sorters I'm not so certain that picking up rubbish is more simple - for some of us, anyway.

Why would I hate you? I don't hate children.

Glad to hear that you have taken it on the chin. It's not like it was out of your control. You ballsed up so it's only fair that you pay up.

Admit to the mistake fine, but if it is fair for roddy to pay up where is the evidence that senior managers of all sorts pay for their mistakes?

Quite correct. It has no bearing on my previous reply, however. roddy_boy understands the reason for my response.

742724 2009-01-29 05:02:00 I you paid roddy you would be a sucker, dont pay one of your hard earned cents. If I charged some drivers for dinging, scratching buses and some mechanics for wrecking things they would have a negative pay ie they would end up paying me for the privilege of coming to work. You see its cheaper for me to for someone to learn from a mistake than retraining someone else.
Most companies I deal with"charge the culprit a box" and culprit gets to drink some of his fine and everyone has a big laugh. We dont because we have some Muslim Fiji Indian people and they just dont do beer. The best thing a boss can do is do a Basil Fawlty and bang your head on a wall a few times and the culprit feels guilty (I think) and get over it.

742725 2009-01-29 05:19:00 Holy jesus burning in hellfire, I have done damages in the millions.

But that's what insurance is for.

Did I ever mention the time I drove a truck into a stationary line of traffic on the motorway, Now that's what I call ****ing **** up.

Or rolled an excavator into the Brisbane river.

or had another excavator go up in flames out in the bush.

Or the house I accidentally burned down

or how I cut the wires that controlled the freezers at a freezing works and they had to shut down and remove all the meat.
