2010-01-08 10:38:00 | To reiterate what others have said, please do the following: Click start (and run, if using XP), type in cmd, and press enter (you will be in a black box). Type "ipconfig -all" and press enter. Scroll up and/or down as necessary, and look for the words "DNS Servers". Tell us the IP address (4-part number) to the direct right of this, and the one underneath this. Should look like xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. This allows us to see if your DNS servers are the problem or not.

2010-01-08 18:14:00 | Thanks Guys, Just to re-iterate my problem. It is that I can't access any website that seems to require loading up those entries you see at the bottom left hand corner of the screen in the grey status line. The ones that load up Analytics and adverts etc. Websites that have none of these load up as normal. Eg I can get the Herald New Site OK and read all of the articles, but the pics don't load. Here is a tracert listing for BBC World News :\Documents and Settings\Digby Green.ELDORADO>tracert bbc.co.uk Tracing route to bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.138] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms RTA1025W.home [192.168.1.1] 2 60 ms 90 ms 62 ms wn-cisco-r5-lo-5.connections.net.nz [202.49.152. 169] 3 * * * Request timed out. 4 * * * Request timed out. 5 74 ms 72 ms 77 ms ge5-0-1-108.akbr5.global-gateway.net.nz [203.96. 66.129] 6 73 ms 79 ms 78 ms xe0-0-0-2.akbr4.global-gateway.net.nz [202.50.23 2.77] 7 73 ms 76 ms 79 ms ae1-10.tkbr9.global-gateway.net.nz [202.50.232.3 7] 8 198 ms 275 ms 203 ms so6-0-3.labr5.global-gateway.net.nz [122.56.127. 34] 9 200 ms 256 ms 200 ms so1-0-2.lebr6.global-gateway.net.nz [202.50.232. 14] 10 200 ms 198 ms 199 ms ge-6-14.car3.LosAngeles1.Level3.net [4.71.32.137 ] 11 * * * Request timed out. 12 247 ms 251 ms 237 ms ae-2.ebr3.SanJose1.Level3.net [4.69.132.9] 13 * * * Request timed out. 14 * * * Request timed out. 15 315 ms 419 ms 314 ms ae-2.ebr4.NewYork1.Level3.net [4.69.135.186] 16 * * * Request timed out. 17 304 ms * 305 ms ae-71-71.ebr1.NewYork1.Level3.net [4.69.134.69] 18 376 ms 383 ms 379 ms ae-43-43.ebr2.London1.Level3.net [4.69.137.73] 19 380 ms 385 ms 377 ms ae-24-52.car3.London1.Level3.net [4.69.139.100] 20 * * * Request timed out. 21 * * * Request timed out. 22 * * * Request timed out. 23 * * * Request timed out. 24 * * * Request timed out. 25 * * * Request timed out. 26 * * * Request timed out. 27 * * * Request timed out. 28 * * * Request timed out. As you will see there are a quite a few time outs. Could this mean that my router (s) are not putting out strong enough signals ? Or has Telecom played with some settings at my exchange ? I am going to try a third router today. Thanks Digby

2010-01-08 19:23:00 | It does not look like a router problem. There is something on your computer that is blocking web sites loading completely, have you a firewall or any sort of internet security programs running. You say the pics don't load on the NZ herald site, do pics load on any other sites When did this problem start, did you update anything or install anything new. Is this a new router you are using. These sort of problems are usually caused by something that has changed on your system especially if it has been working normally previously.

2010-01-08 21:27:00 | What router do you have and are you trying? Im still not sure it's a router issue, more a DNS or a local machine issue. Primary: 208.67.222.222 Secondary: 208.67.220.220 No point doing that as I am using the same DNS as Digby and it is working fine. I suggest remove any ad blockers or pop up blockers Repair the winsock files If still having a problem change the MTU in the Dynalink from 1500 to 1492

2010-01-09 00:45:00 | Reset your router to defaults and then reconfigure it. I had a problem with my Dynalink RTA-230 that was only solved by doing that. | Agent_24 (57) | |
