743382 2009-01-30 19:52:00 Are there any electricians here?
Just read the latest NZCMA mag. It says old vehicles (mine) with an earth link and rcd on end of lead will trip new rcded supplies in camping ground.
I haven't had a problem yet but like the boy Scouts motto I had better get it sorted out now.
Do I have to remove link and buy a rcd mounted on the switch board?

743383 2009-01-31 00:03:00 All caravans in the past had a link between the neutral and earth on their internal switch-board. The new way of wiring doesn't have this link.

Since about several? years ago, it has been compulsory for camping grounds to have a RCD unit on their power supplies to each caravan.

If you front up with a caravan wired the old way, it will immediately trip the RCD belonging to the camping ground.

To make sure this doesn't happen, most camping grounds insist on you having a current electrical warrant-of-fitness - actually I'm pretty sure it is a legal requirement for you to have one.

If you don't have one, you should get one. (otherwise you really might be a junior member for EVER.)

743384 2009-01-31 01:33:00 I have electrical wof its about 5 months old.
The mag said something like this.
Caravans pre 1997 were wired with a link but it cant be removed with rewiring in a switchboard rcd. The guy who did the electrical wof never mentioned I had to modify camper all I had to do was swop some wires over in extension lead which I did while he had a smoke and a coffee.
Can anyone tell me what RCD I have to buy and how to wire it in and has anyone here had campground rcd tripping out?
I have been at about 6 power sites so far and no tripping.

743385 2009-02-03 09:36:00 You don't have to do anything or buy anything.

If you have an electrical WoF that is only 5 months old, then you are OK.

(You would not have got the WoF if the caravan hadn't already been upgraded.)
