742572 2009-01-28 03:21:00 Hi All

I priced a particular laptop just before Christmas and decided to monitor prices for a while, so I bookmarked all the relevant sites (yes, I know about pricespy) in order to check up on prices/stocks/specs from time to time.

The second cheapest retailer was NFC technologies, which I was leaning toward, as the cheapest was on-line only and I preferred to have somewhere to go and see the unit (and somewhere to thump the desk if anything went wrong later).

However ... since then they appear to have disappeared from the internet. Their website, www.nfc.co.nz is down, and pricespy has a page stating, "Seller has no prices listed on PriceSpy."

Looks like I may have missed by a narrow squeak buying from a defunct vendor. Scary stuff.

Anyone know for sure that they are gone? (or not, as the case may be)

It would be nice if they at least had the courtesy to put a status update on their site whatever the story.

742573 2009-01-28 03:22:00 I'd never consider buying from a shop like that. Check out http://ascent.co.nz - costs a bit more but you get excellent after-sales service. jwil1 (65)
742574 2009-01-28 04:54:00 I would be very wary of buying from computer shops in the current economic climate, especially the ones that offer really cheap prices, where their margins are very small. I would make sure that you pay by credit card too, just in case they go belly up while your order is processed, that way you can at least get a chargeback. I know of a few business this week that have gone under. robbyp (2751)
742575 2009-01-28 05:06:00 I bought a hard drive off them few years ago. Very impressed with all aspects of the sale. I often use them to compare prices from other stores when I purchase new computer stuff. Have not had the pleasure of dealing with them since (brother in law works at major retail store) but would be sorry to hear they have gone. Those involved will be hurting as will many others closing their doors. sam m (517)
742576 2009-01-28 07:18:00 GordonBennet: I will pop by Newmarket on my way to work tomorrow to see if the store is still physically there.

Cheers :)

742577 2009-01-28 20:09:00 Hi GordonBennet, I have just paid a visit to Newmarket branch of NFC Technology this morning. There are still computers and other IT gadgets displayed in the store. Nothing is telling me that they are closing down.

Cheers :)

742578 2009-01-28 21:49:00 Thanks, Jamuz

Wow, that's weird though ... shop still there but no internet presence. You'd expect the opposite really if a business were suffering.

742579 2009-01-29 00:07:00 I bought a hard drive from them too, their website seemed quite professional and their service was very good.

Probably they had a webserver malfunction of some sort - and maybe they didn't have a backup!

742580 2009-01-29 21:55:00 Their website is up and running again. I hope that means they are OK. Taurus (9579)
