846382 2010-01-06 08:48:00 Have speedfan open on my laptop at the moment and it says HDO: 38C, Temp1: 74C and Core: 78C. Is this too hot?
Because my laptop has recently started overheating when running Modern Warfare 2. It runs Dirt 2 and Fallout 3 fine but today when playing MW2 it overheated once and crashed the computer twice. So I gave up playing lol because it would happen after 5min or so of game time.

846383 2010-01-06 09:10:00 Just ran MW2 for a couple of min and alt tabbed and Temp1 and Core temps were both mid nineties. So I shutdown the computer, hit the power button and it turned itself off after 2sec. So I tried again and it did the same thing. Third time lucky lol. So I shut it down again and the same thing happened!!! Except on one of them the laptop stayed on just with a blank screen. So is there something wrong? I have checked all the fans for dust and I ALWAYS have it sitting on a cooling pad which has 3 fans on it. This stuff has only been happening in the last day or two and I have no idea why... xyz823 (13649)
846384 2010-01-06 09:23:00 First, don't play that game on it till you get it sorted,
Have you blown out all the vents?
Not just the fan intake but also exhausts?
The weather is hotter than it was which will be contributing to your
overheating problem.
Does your machine have a fan intake on the bottom?
Does the cooling pad blow into this or suck air from it?
If none of these is the culprit it could be you need new thermal paste even!
What make and model?

Also, have any major updates to the game occurred (I don't know about games myself.)

Yep

I have blown out everything that has a grill on it lol. Basically the bottom of the whole laptop.

That may be the problem. The weather has suddenly gone from 15 degree days to about 25 degress + days. Also the fact that it was in my room which was almost like a Sauna!

846386 2010-01-06 20:50:00 What version is your BIOS?

h10025.www1.hp.com

The latest for your model is F.17......although
they don't say it deals with an overheating problem,
it does address a problem with system recovery if the HDD
is not set to first boot device. So it's probably worth having.
