Damn thing just wouldn't boot the DVD... I think it was the 2x speed CD drive. probably too slow.

There's your problem :p

Only unfixable prob I've had is on one really old machine infested with spyware etc that needed a reformat - can't boot from cd... not even in BIOS :groan:

744970 2009-02-05 01:06:00 Never had a PC yet I couldn't fix

If I couldn't get it going for what ever reason - after consulting the customer on a replacement - bring out the BIG hammer - that "Fixed it" for good. :p

744971 2009-02-05 01:15:00 I have an old PC which won't boot (not at all: no POST screen or fan noise), and I can't be bothered fixing it. :p pcuser42 (130)
744972 2009-02-05 01:20:00 All depends on what you define as can't fix.
Dead PCs don't get fixed if they are too old due to lack of parts, if its upgraded its not really fixed - its replaced.

I did have one Vista PC that refused to be able to see the internet via its Wireless PCI card, no matter if trying via Windows connectiod or its own.
The owner gave up as far as I know.

Would it have anything to do with being different architecture

744974 2009-02-05 01:29:00 Problem I have had for a few years is Outlook Express wont send/receive if computer has been on for a while have to reset computer and its fine.
I suppose a full reinstall would fix it but I cant be buggered.
Also DLINK pcmia network card wont work properly with W98 on lappy starts off then dies.
Both of these things I have given up on after buku hours trying to sort them out.

744975 2009-02-05 01:45:00 Just had to reformat the HP Pavilion at home.

My son downloaded Bitcomet and it came with a few nasties - either the application or whatever it was he downloaded with Bitcomet!

Tried fixing it with Malwarebytes (took about three hours to do a deep scan) and Trojan Remover, but even though it looked clean, the machine still took 15 minutes to open Explorer.

Gave up and hit the Restore button (felt like doing the same to my son, but managed to overcome the desire. :) However he now understands in no uncertain terms what he is allowed to install!!!)...

At least I managed to grab the data...
