744508 2009-02-03 06:49:00 . . . well that was 30 December: . nzherald . co . nz/fuel-prices/news/article . cfm?c_id=1500966&objectid=10550042" target="_blank">www . nzherald . co . nz

But it sure didn't last long!

Weakening dollar forces petrol prices up another 6c:

I expect inflation to be rampant in New Zealand, with people's hard earned savings soon reduced to nothing (especially with the fall in interest rates) .

Those who have saved hard over the years and have been prudent with their money will be punished . Those who have spent frivolously over the last few years and have saved nothing are to be rewarded and even further encouraged to borrow more money with interest rates plummeting .

Surely this is a recipe for disaster?

744509 2009-02-03 06:58:00 I dont think so, inflation is pretty much a part of any economy at some point. sure we're going to have a rough patch but as long as pay rates keep going up we should be fine. Eventually interest rates will climb back up. I see how alot of people will lose out though with savings etc though

thats just another excuse for me not to save lol

744510 2009-02-07 10:09:00 My predication is for inflation to fall.

Have you noticed that we import just about everything we buy.
Cars, Tvs, PC's clothes, now much of our food. Outscouring call centres.
So the trend is downwards. Cars are now far chepaer than they ever were and they will keep coming down - China, India, E Europe.

So the only thing gong up is stupid kiwis paying more for houses and land.

OK our dollar is down and petrol will cost more.
