744219 2009-02-02 19:28:00 Regardless of the model number, if it says Airbus I won't be on it.

Why?

Remember the old saying.... "Flying is the safest way to fly"

744220 2009-02-02 19:38:00 You guys would not of flown Boeing 737s for ten years either. I was watching Air Crash Investigations last night and 2 B737s had mysterously turned upside down and crashed killing all on board. It wasn't till it happened to a 3rd one ten years later that didn't crash that they found out what the cause was. Without going into detail it had something to do with the valve that operates the rudder.

A lot of new procedures and changes made after that investigation.

Just remember that pilots are not particularly keen on dying either so they are not going to fly an aircraft that they consider unsafe.

744222 2009-02-02 20:01:00 The big difference is that I’m told that if the Boeing Computer “BSOD’s” you can turn it off and fly the damn plane by the seat of your pants.

Apparently, an Airbus you can’t. Electrical/FibreOptic/Computer problems followed by a “Hissy Fit” and you can kiss you a… good bye.

Flying by Wire with no mechanical back-up is not for me, sorry. :)

Sorry to disappoint you but all modern FBW aircraft such as the B777 are controlled electrically.
There is no mechanical connection such as cables to the flight control actuators

Looks like you will have to go by boat next time.

Actually they still have 767's and 747's which seem to fly OK even under extreme circumstances. ;)

I'm assured they can fly without the Computer. :D

744225 2009-02-02 23:04:00 Considering the amount of flights around the world every day that never have any problems what so ever, its still very safe.

Take the number of cars on the roads around the world - damn site more accidents than planes have.

744226 2009-02-02 23:22:00 How pathetic.
:)
I agree. They are indeed ;)

I have no idea why my girlfriend insists I call her after every flight to ensure I landed safely, but doesn't insist when I drive into work. I know which one is more dangerous.

Women.

744228 2009-02-03 17:57:00 I don't understand why people think flying is safer than driving. The statistics? What bloody statistics?

I sure that if you put as many aircraft in the sky as there are cars driving around, driving would become a lot more dangerous because of the constant rain of falling aircraft debris.
